One of my gliders makes a noise that I am not familiar with, and since I don't have the experience with
gliders that most of you all have (I have only had mine 2 weeks) I thought I would ask. Anyway he
makes a side like puffing of air. Almost like he is blowing at something. He doesn't seem mad or
anything when he does it. He mostly does it when he is walking around the cage. I know that this is a
weird description but does anyone know exactly what he is doing? Any responses appreciated.

Has he always done this?
Does he do it at ALL times?

He is approx 1 year to a 1.5 I have only had him 2.5 weeks and no he does not do it all of the time Just
when he is sometimes sitting there or walking around. It is not a loud sound or anything and it does not
sound like an angry sound either.

If I'm thinking of the same sound it's like blowing air through their nose but with a little "extra" almost
nasal sound. If this is what you are talking about, mine will do this usually when I put them back in their
cage - almost like saying "wait" come back! If I do go back, they will stop.
If this is not the sound, then in the words of the immortal Rosanna Danna "never mind", LOL.

Baby sugar gliders make a "mommy call" noise that sounds similar to what you described. It's a little more than just a blowing noise, there is a nasal qualitity to. Could be this is what you are hearing ... I think they have a sound like that on that site...

Mine do the sound you are descibribing too and I have to agree with KarenE...Mine to do it to get me to come back and play more or atleast stand and chat with them a bit.

One yells a high pitched bark repeatedly in an even rhythm at around 3:30 a.m. What the hell is wrong with it. The other one won't even come out of the hole in the sleeping box when I reach in. What's the problem? Are they unhappy? Do they hate us? *crying* Help us! *screaming* Don't you have any compassion? Are they gonna die? *getting depressed* Enh..........

I don't have a SG but I read on a web site that they stay to themselve until they get ajusted. Did you buy him when he was a couple of years old? This can like break their heart cause they miss their other owner. One web site decribe this as cruel.Hope I helped! Good luck. Les

mine do this to , I think that it's what Kanen said , when you hear him doing this just kind of stand there & talk softly to him & see if he stops , you said that you only had him 2 1/2 weeks? maybe thats his way of taking you in & you taking him in , comumaction :?????? but if it gets realy loud , like a i cant breath , take him to a vet !!!!! did the pople that you bought him from use ceader chips in his cage ??????????

the best thing to do is pay very close attention to ANYTHING and everything, that is happening at the time, learn your gliders and the different sounds they make, and boy do they make a lot. On my site, I have a handful, and still isn't all of them, you have varying pitches and lengths of each sound to mean different things. The air blowing, you have the exhaling, and the inhaling and the combination of the two, some long some short.. but one thing you may watch Jill is if he is doing it while he is trying to deficate, if so it may be a sign of constipation..check his tail when he is making it, see if it is crooked like a cats may be..
Bacardi... sounds to me as if you are hearing the "bark", your time is about right.. no matter where anyone is the 3:00 hour is the prime time for these guys.. it is just a way for them to communicate, some people have different meanings for it.. some may say they want attention, others say it is a warning sound, others still "story hour" again the same advice.. listen for any other sounds, something out in the distance, another animal etc.. when mine bark NO other glider MOVES.. they just freeze right where they are no matter what they are doing... One thing I have noticed though in my home itis mainly the dominant ones out of each cage that bark..
