I saw on a previous post that you said straight honey for gliders is bad. I thought it was ok as an occasional licky treat is that not right? (Just don't want to feed my babies something bad!)

boubon indicated last night in the chat room that straight honey may be bad as a licky treat from your fingers because of bacteria that builds up -- i dont recall if she said it was bad if given from another source (like a spoon)

i havent researched this extensivly or anything..but I do know that unrefined sugar (ie straight sugar) is not good for sugar gliders..it seems to me that straight honey may be a little two sweet...as I said this is just my sence of it..I have been using fruit flavored baby food and it sems to work pretty well

It is true..we used to think it was okay as a treat...but it is now believed to be too much for the glider..please read this:

The bacterium is Clostridium botulinum, the causative agent of botulism and infant botulism. Clotridium spores can get into the honey, via the air after opening up the bottle, and upon ingestion, they germinate and become viable and dangerous "bugs".You mainly see infant (babies) botulism from honey contamination and rarely see it in children or adults. So I look at my gliders as if they were babies-> I do not give them honey out of a jar.
