we just had a discussion on this ..go look t switching sleeping ptern posted by pick.
my scence of it is you can..Buy you have to keep them in a room that can by kept dark durring the daytime (so that they will thingk its night and keep light at night) I would lso recomend doing this slowly..ie..switching the ratio of light to dark a few hours a night..so that you dont totally shoch their systems and confuse them also make sure tht they have vitamin d3 in their calcium (becausse this is usully created by the sun, so they will need to get it. Also go look t the pervious debate raspberry

No, I have mine on an early evening schedual, I usually get home around 7 and she is up waiting for me. This isn't hard to do, but daylight savings time made it easier too. Also, you can play with them during the day. Get them out in a room that isn't too bright, give them a favorite treat, and in a few minutes they will get real active, but after a little while they want to go back to sleep, and I just let her.

It could definitely make a sugar glider ill to be forced into an unnatural sleep pattern. Sugar gliders are NOCTURNAL that is life, and if you want a pet that is awake during the day then a nocturnal pet is not for you. I play with my sugar gliders every night from around 9pm-12am, and so I can see them I put on a small light. If the light was any brighter they would probably go back to bed (25watt). A sugar glider who is forced to awaken during the day would probably become stressed and cranky. Any sugar glider knowledgable veterinarian should be able to tell you that sugar gliders need to sleep during the day, and what could happen if you stress your glider out.

changing light patterns is not forcing them to do anything..and if you change it gradually it would not be that much of a stress to their systems. I am not sying that one should wake up their gliders in the middle of the day..in the light and force them to stay up..but that by changing light patterns slowly..one can modify the hours that their glider is awake. I personally dont do this with my gliders, as i am in studio all day and their schedule works really well with mine. BUT i think that if someone wanted to change their gliders schedule so that they would be ble to spend more time with him/her than the glider would benifit from more time spent with their owner. it all depends on how this is done.

When gliders become stressed they produce a toxin in their body. They can actually die from the stress. It is possible that your glider won't get upset if you change their sleeping patern, but they probably will.

When I first got my glider he never got up before 11:30 or 12:00. I tried waking him up at 10 every night and he would get very ipset. It was obvious that even getting him up 2 hes early was stressing him out. I had to very slowly wake him up 10 or 15 minutes earlier at nigth until he was used to a new time. It took me over 3 months to get him to wake up ay 9:00 instead of 12:00.

If you want to do it ther right way without stressing them out it would take a very long time. Probably over a year to do.

So who will play with this glider for the first year of their lives?

Gliders need at least 2 hrs of playtime a day. You have no quarantee that you will be able to change that gliders sleeping habbits. So if you already know that you can't play with your glider then whats the point in getting one?

Gliders are nocturnal animals...you may be able to change that, but thats not deffinite.

When you buy a glider you know its norcturnal. If you can't play with the glider late at night or early in the morning then don't get one/ There are tons of nonnocturnal animals out there that you can get.
