: Sugar gliders are unlikely to colonize in California because the feral cat population is too high. In addition, they are unlikely to destroy any crops - they are mainly blossom, nectar, sap, manna, and insect eaters in the wild.

Gliders like most predators who are omnivorous they are actually oppurtunists when it comes to a meal. They will eat anything that will not eat them back. Many cats are scared by the sounds gliders make. Also gliders live in tree tops too high for a North America squirrel to go so I don't think a cat has a chance at those heights.
