: My question to Bourbon exactly. If we are not to capture them to put them back, how do we get them back. They won't go back by themselves and I don't want them to have free reign of the house all night. So if I'm doing this bonding thing wrong, how do I right it???
You have to catch them to put them back into their cages even though they are not going to want to go back, they will not want to give up that freedom. Begin with a small room so that when it comes time to go back to the cage you will not have to "chase" them down. You want to be able to scoop them up or pick them up but don't chase or snatch at them, no behavior that will stress or frighten or cause them extreme anxiety. The thing is to build trust. So sure give them a treat when they are back in their cage and yes put them back in there but don't chase and capture, but rather pick them up or scoop them up and hold them close against your person within cupped hands.
