It's not so much the cage that smells, it's actually the gliders, they smell of poo or something. So strongly that if they are out and about and they are close by, I smell them before I see them. I have no wood in the cage and I clean the bottom out every day or two and in over a month have only scoured the cage once. As for supplementation, they don't get any. They are on the leadbeater diet with additional fresh fruits and vegetables, and occasional crickets and worms.
: : For bourbon or anyone. My babies are about 3 months OOP, maybe a little more. They keep themselves clean right? Well, to me they are very stinky. I smell poo and when they go on me I smell like poo too! They are going in their bed less, which is good. Will they learn to keep themselves cleaner as they mature? Will the smell become worse with hormones and sprays being let off more? Stinky little critters.....I need to hear others experiences.
: It is common for them to mark their territory and this will create an odor. The more that you scour their cage the more they will mark it. It is recommended to clean out the bottom of the cage daily, wipe off the cage weekly and give it a good scrubbing monthly. Does it contain any wood? Wood not only holds odors but bacteria as well. Another cause could be oversupplementation. How much are you giving them in the way of vitamins. Many people have found that by cutting back on the amount of vitamins that they were giving decreases the odor problem.
