There are several other types of gliders besides just sugar gliders. Greater glider is one, and there's also mahogany gliders, yellow bellied gliders, and a few others I can't remember.

As far as owning them... I'm pretty sure it's illegal to own greater gliders, at least in the U.S. I can't remember if they're legal in Australia or not, though.

No, you cannot purchase/own them here. Ko or Jett may be able to answer your questions about them a little better as they live in Australia and have lots of knowledge about them.

Greater gliders are very big-imagine a good sized cat or bigger. Jett and I saw them in the wild last year.

If there were any in the USA, they would be in a zoo facility only. They cannot be owned by the public and protected by laws.

Do you mean she has flying squirrels? Some people do have those as pets.

There's a difference between flying squirrels and squirrel gliders. Squirrel gliders basically just look like a sugar glider, except they have really bushy tails, slightly more pointed ears and, I think a slightly different color.

Yes- www.wildlife.org.au/wildlife-gliders.php?page=w-gliders-mahogany.html

All six gliders and their sounds and other info.

Jaclyn was thinking of a striped possum (black and white and big) that look like gliders but are not a type of glider- related to them though!

I have a problem with these guys being called squirrel gliders..well not pure bred ones anyway. Squirrel gliders are large but very dainty..long thin faces, shaped ears and amazingly fluffy & long tails. One of the petglider.com's squirrel gliders even has a white tip which is not found in pure bred squirrel gliders here in Australia.

Here in South Ausralia were lucky to be able to keep Squirrel Gliders.:) Rach has 8 of them, and was able to source 3 for us. THANKS RACH! They are different to sugars, they are a lot bigger, more dosile and have a huge fluffy tail. Ya gotta love South Australian Fauna laws! ;)
