Theres a difference in giant mealworms and superworms/kingworms. Superworms/Kingworms are a completely different worm than a mealworm. They come from a different beetle and the larvae has a hard outer shell. They are safe for consumption if the animal eating it can digest that hard outer shell. They can't go into the fridge to go dormant. They can't handle cold, they will die.
Giant mealworms-
DON'T FEED THEM TO YOUR SUGAR GLIDER!!!! Or any animal you care about. Giant mealworms should only be used for Fish bait. They are regular mealworms (from the regular darkling beetle) that have been given a
GROWTH HORMONE STIMULANT to keep them from morphing into their next stage of life-which is pupae. It keeps them growing past the 1" stage which is when the larvae usually change into pupae. They just keep growing until they eventually die. Therefore, they are sterile and never grow to the pupae stage or the beetle stage- and the GROWTH HORMONRE STIMULANT that they have been given has got to be bad for anything that consumes them too!!!! ANYTIME YOU SEE GIANT MEALWORMS---DON'T BUY THEM (unless you want to go fishing)!!! They have been given this stimulant. Superworms-are okay. Giants-NOT OKAY!!
