Thanks to catman and a little imagination, I created my own suggie cage! It's 32" wide, 22" deep, and 53" tall for about $60! I hope my gliders like it when I get them. Tell me what you think about it. I placed all the food and water bottle containers in the middle and it seems like the lower 2 feet is kinda bere and almost pointless. Will they even go down there? Anything I could put down there cause the wodent wheel is hanging in the top left corner. See?

Go to your local wal mart in the toy section and find the Little people Noah's ark, my gliders love it and I just set it on the bottom of the cage.

Also try a ball pit. Get a cheap cookie jar or other container and fill it with ping pong balls. I use a dvd spindle with a couple cat balls, my gliders will sometimes get in there and "wrestle" with the ball, rolling around and everything. It's very fun.

Nice cage! Yeah id do what Ahsaehr says. You might not see them play with the stuff on the bottom but they will. I have the ball pit,i have never seen them play in it, but almost every morning most of the balls are all over the cage. I also put pieces of flees in the ball pit and they will take them out and bring it into their pouch. Are you going to build a stand for it? They might like it off the ground a little bit. I think they can pinch their little toes in the netting when its on the ground. Good luck and good looking cage

You'll also find that you like the food up higher because their poo and pee falls to the lower part. It's MUCH easier to take out the toys and clean them when you need to than worry about the food getting contaminated. I bet they'll love it!

Yeah I'm still trying to fiqure out how to get it off the ground and use some sort of drop pan underneith. Any ideas. I've even thought about using a large top to a huge rubbermaid container to catch everything when it falls. How did you make your stand catman? PVC?

OK! I bought the Noahs art toy from walmart AND put some pink pong balls in it. I also got a very large lid to place under it. Thanks for everyones help. I'm sure the suggies will love it. By the way, what types of litter can I put in the tray to absorb the urine? What about those little pellets that are made from recycable news paper? Should I stay away from pine shavings? I know cedar is a no-no.

I have never seen a puddle of urine. I think as long as you wipe down the pan you use under your cage every day, you don't need any litter. Paper maybe, but they don't pee like dogs or cats(mine don't anyhow) they seem to pee while they run so they can get EVERYTHING.

Hi! Your cage is awesome! My husband and I were wanting to make our baby a cage like that this weekend. What materials did you use and where did you get them? Also, I didn't see a tray on the bottom to catch the pee and poop...What should we do for that? Any advice would be great!

YOu did an AWSOME job on the cage. Looks wonderful and fun. Definately needed a few more toys, but I see you got some. Have fun with your babies and I am sure they love their new cage.

I keep my nestboxes on the floor and thats where I feed as well. I try to keep one exercise wheel per 2 animals so most of my cages have 2,3 or 4 wheels in them. Floor space is getting expensive for those colonies!

You can buy hardware cloth at lowes for about 11 dollars for.... 2 yards I think. If I were to make that I would buy a rubbermaid lid and use as a tray pan, which I think is what he did.

Or you could buy a whole rubbermaid container with a drawer and cut the top off and add it to cage so you just pull the mess out and wash it. You could easily make that same cage and add a little more to the pvc pipe on the bottom to just that.

I used 3/4" PVC for the frame, but I think for the size of my cage, 1/2" PVC would be enough, and I did just use 1/2" PVC for the door. I got my idea from catman, take a look at his pics for some more ideas. I used 2 rolls of hardare netting that come in 3'x15' rolls. Its plastic netting but very durable and I don't think they would be able to chew through it. It did take a few hundred zip-ties. Everything was at lowes. The hardware netting is located outside in the lawn and garden beside the chicken wire and fencing.
For the pan I bought the biggest rubbermaid container I could find and used the lid upside down to catch everything. To get the cage off the ground enough to slide the cage underneith, I build a frame out of a 2x4 with L brackets on the corners for extra stability and 2 inch rotating wheels on the bottom. The frame isn't anchored to the cage, but I build it slightly wider than the cage so it would sit on top withough falling off. Everything works perfectly. The only regret is that I wasn't able to find a hing for the door, so I just used copper pipe hangars and bent them to fit. The door latch is just a simple hook and eye latch. If I were to build another one I would have two swinging doors like catmans, and probably more cross pipes that actually go through the cage to hang stuff on. If you build one, I really suggest using some left over netting and making a feeding station in the middle instead of just sitting it on the floor bottom. I Hope my suggies like it as much as I do!

Thank you for the info! We will see what we can find.

I have a few more questions...My husband and I bought a tent for play time. When Riley climbs on us he loves to bite. It's not too hard, but still it is a bit uncomfortable. He was on my husbands leg and kept biting his jeans. Is this normal? Is there a way to get him to stop biting?

Also, Riley poops in his wheel and it smears everywhere. Is there a way to stop that or is it just something to expect?

AhhHaa. Thank you!A Rubermaid lid will work perfect, well 2 of them will.I was getting sick of the paper i was putting under ,getting stuck in the wheels.Thank you people!!

ea74706 did you glue the pipe together?

I would also suggest running a pipe thru the whole center going up and adding extra 4 ways so you can add extra stuff later, without having to take apart your cage. This picture shows a trampoline(i built outa PVC) on one side and where i put the food bowls on the other. Both can be taken out in seconds and something put in its place.

That is going to be a hard cage to clean well. I highly recommend a pressure washer .

, a pressure washer in the living room. My wife would flip out if she saw me doing that. I can't take mine out of the house to clean,so i had to invest in a huge roll of plastic. It takes a while to clean it good, not to mention its 30 degrees outside. My next cage WILL come apart just so i can use a pressure washer.

No I didn't use glue, but they still fit really tight. Yeah the bottom looks kinda hard to clean, I wish I could have found some 1/2" spaced wire that was coated for the bottom. I found galvanized but didn't want to use that and I wasn't sure what kind of paint to coat it in to seal it. Before I ever build another one, I will come up with a better door hinge and make it so the ENTIRE front opens up like a full sized door, and put more shelves in it. I have some left over pipe, I might just go buy a 4 way cross section and build another bar going through the middle. It is bigger than most cages but it still seems a little cramped when I put all the stuff in it. Catman, that cross section in the middle of yours in that pic above, does it just sit on a vertical pipe and stick out horizontally or does it connect to the frame?

The top 4 way doesn't connect to anything, except for that small vertical pipe.I wish i would have ran one all the way to the top with 3 or 4 4-ways evenly spaced to add extra stuff later.I added more pics on the photobucket album. And wow, look who wanted to check out what i was doing, while i was taking pictures. He never does this. I took these 2:30 mt time today(10 min ago)

My husband and I built a cage this weekend. We worked on it for 10 hours yesterday and about 2 1/2 hours today. It is finally finished! It is gigantic! We miscalculated a little I hope Riley likes it? We'll post pics in a couple days.

Cramped inside of a large cage is a good thing. Sugars do not really need open room to jump and glide, but they do need room to climb and explore. So the more cramped you can make your large cage, the more fun it will be for them. I thought my cages were cramped with 4 wodent wheels in them until I looked at it from the perspective of the animals. Think of what it is like living in the treetops with branches and leaves everywhere. Seems cramped to me. Can probably save the gliding for out of cage experiences.
