I've decided to go the Reptarium route for my new gliders home. After reading and seeing what a lot of other people have done, I decided to buy the mesh for the 175 gal habitat and build my own structure from PVC piping. I was at Lowe's tonight and apparently they don't make slip on three way corner joints. They only have pieces where there is two slip holes and one threaded holes. But I need them to be all slip holes. For those of you who did build their own reptarium structure, how did you overcome this?

Also, the Lowe's guy mentioned that PVC pipe is used for irrigation and not for drinking. This concerns me. I don't my new little glider to get sick if she bites the pipe. There is also hot and cold PVC pipe which is for drinking water. What materials did people use out there?

Thanks in advance for your input and assistance.

Send Catman a Private Message. He has built a couple of cages out of PVC pipe.

That first link is a PVC cage built for an iguana, but the mesh is the same and should work for a suggie. They used L joints and cable ties for assembly.
The second link is a cage built with wire shelving.
Hopefully one will work for your needs!
Good luck, I plan on building my own cage within the next month.

I built mine with PVC several months ago and had the same problem. I found a connector piece that would screw into that third hole and then it would slip over the pipe. Found that at Lowes along with the joints.

I just recently finnished building a cage like this. You can order 3 way corner joints from these two sites.
Catman sent me this link:
www.littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/pvc.shtml
(they do not ship to canada)
pvcfittings.com/
(they ship to canada)

If you decide not to order off the internet you can make individual panels and zip tie them together.

See, I was going to do the same thing but I found on many sites that suggies can chew their way through the mesh so it isnt safe? I dont see that mine really chew on anything. Anyone here have that problem? Because I do need a bigger cage to, prefferably without all the cost.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend but if you go to www.bird.com and type in the search area... tall flight cage.. you will find a wonderful cage for $149 and no shipping! It's a wonderful size cage and with NO shipping cost... That just makes it THAT much better.

It's a beautiful cage, and it's available in three different colors. There are a lot of little doors to zip tie, and the grate on the bottom must be zip tied too - but so what! Such a deal!!

bird.com tower cage

This is mine in the brown color:

It makes more sense to me to purchase this cage than to make one.

Wow! Your pics are great!

I decided not to go with trying to build a cage myself. I'm buying a custom made cage for reptariums. The look really fun!

Those are really cute! But ... we've had folks that have had gliders chew their way out of Reptariums. The screening is so thin that it wouldn't take any time at all for one to get out.

PVC is used for hot and cold domestic water and DWV ( Drainage, Waste, Vent)and among other applications. There is no difference in PVC other than thickness and size. So you should not worry about Sugar Gliders becoming ill from them. The only thing that is different from CPVC is that its is used for mostly hot water applications and is smaller in the OD(outside diameter) and ID(inside diameter)and more costly. DO NOT USE ABS as it can be toxic to them. My son is a plumbers Apprentice and told me this. So I thought I would tell you.
You Can also buy 3 way slip fitting from any hardware store. Most places you will have to special order them. But keep I'm mind they can range from 1 dollar to several dollars. There are also 4 way tees that you can get too. You have to ask them to look them up. Its better to check several places and ask as many questions as you can think of. Other people all ways have other ideas and suggestions. You will be surprised how has pets and are doing or have done the same as you will.
