So I'm new to the forum, I posted for the first time last week. Anyway, my husband and I built our new suggie, D'argo, a cage last night and moved him in today.

This is the cage we got D'argo in.

The new cage, it's 6'5"x3'x2'.

With the doors open.

Showing the 'tray' on the bottom. If I manage to find a flatter variety of tray we're going to remake the bottom and make the current tray a storage bucket on the bottom.

D'argo exploring the water dish.

More exploring.

By his pouch.

First time I've given him mango.

His fur is starting to look a little better than when we got him.

First time he's gotten boiled chicken too. Deciding whether he wants mango or chicken.

D'argo and the captain.

There's a couple more pics in my albums. I need to get a lot more toys for him, that's going to be this weeks project. How's the cage look and how does he look?

Thanks for your comments!

I'm so surprised at how much he's out tonight. He's zipping around that cage and has been 100 times more active that he has been. A couple of days ago I started calling him my sugar poucher because in that other cage he was only coming out to eat! He looks SO happy in his new cage! Thanks for the compliment, dizzysmom.

Yup, that's the step after getting some new toys! I've replied to an ad on craigslist but have yet to hear back from the person. It's a female that's lost her mate from what I can gather.

Very nice cage. I'm sure D'argo is quite happy with his new abode.

Right now my cage is about 8 square feet. I can't remember the exact measurements off the top of my head. Quantum seems to like it, but I wish it was bigger. In time, I intend to either build or buy him the biggest cage my spare bedroom can hold.

Glad to know I'm not the only Farscape fan around I get strange looks when I post pet names that use extra punctuation or have two-part names.

Just wanted to let you know! The cage is WONDERFUL! However, if you are partial to your Star Trek poster, you might want to either move it or cover it with a clear plastic shower curtain. It won't survive the "flingings of gliders" too long!!

AWESOME cage!!! What a difference. I know that they are so excited to have that. I just moved my colony into big digs and they are so happy! Great job and way to go knowing that these babies need large homes to thrive and be healthy and happy.

Does the 6'2 measurement include the stand? Also where did you find the mesh to cover it?

Yeah, the 6'6" measurement includes the stand. The interior space of the cage is around 5'6".

Lowes had the plastic mesh. Home Depot had vinyl coated wire mesh. It's a lot stiffer but also 3x as expensive.

I would have liked to use the hardware mesh but the plastic mesh was in my price range.

That's a very nice cage! You've got room for all kinds of goodies ... shelves, hanging toys, everything. He's going to have the best time, and there's plenty of space for a buddy too.

That's a very nice cage. What did you use for the lock to keep the doors shut? Well Could you just maybe tell me the tings you used and how you did it because we are trying to build our own cage but we are having some problems figuring things out.

Hey! My husband said he'd already draw up how he did the hinges so I'll post that in a couple days. We used spring loaded latches on the top and bottom to keep the doors closed -- they we're cheap at lowes and are just screwed into the pvc. We also over lapped the plastic mesh over the gaps from the door just to double escape-proof it. I don't think he could squeeze through the gaps, but just in case.

At Catman's suggestion we used 3/4" pipe for sturdiness. I would suggest that you draw out what you think each pipe connector would look like and make sure you can find them at your home improvement place. We had to cobble some of the ones we needed together with creative drilling just because I wasn't patient enough to order the pieces off the internet. (Cobbling joints together was easy enough but it would have been nice to not have to do it!)

And, we probably used about 400 zip ties.
