It depends where you go... If you went to a walmart with material (such as fleece) it would probably only cost about $4.00-$12.00, depending on how much you want/need. The Walmart in my area has quite the selection, but i'm not sure about other places.

What's nice about making your own things is that you can add your own personal touches and decide what colors/patterns you want.

I like using kids toys for my gliders. You can go to thrift stores and buy things that they can climb in. I saw one lady that use a doll house, I've seen the fisher price barn. You can get all kinds of fisher price toys at thrift stores. I'm going to post some pictures for you to see what I have in my cages....okay

I made a rope vine by braiding some fleece. I have a waffle ball I bought from the dollar store and I push straws through the holes and put it in the cage and my gliders go crazy trying to get the straws out of the ball. Then they collect the straws in their pouches. I pulled 10 straws out of a pouch once. They seem to get upset when they have to start collecting again. They love to play with barrell of Monkeys. You can hang them all over the cage and they'll carry them around. I saw some people take that ring thing you pull off of a milk carton and hang it in their cages and the gliders just love those and guess what...their free on you milk cartons. Don't throw them away, use them.

I'm going to get some pictures now okay and post them.

The milk lid idea seem's creative... and easy! I wonder who came up with that one :)

About the kids toy's: They do seem to work pretty well, you just have to make sure they're suggie safe! (Make sure the glider's can easily fit through any holes/openings easily, no sharp edges, ect.)

It's the rings around the lids on the milk carton. Pretty cool idea i thought when I heard it. Maybe the person who told us about it will post a picture.

Make certain you really look at Walmart's fleece. Some of it is very thin and doesnt last very long.

Safety is also very important when making glider toys. There are certain things you should never use.

Any kind of bracelet or bracelet like ring that they could get their bodies or heads into and get stuck is one.

Dont use any string or ribbon. If you are going to string plastic beads, use plastic lace.

Use only bells that are stainless steel and are bell sharped. No round bells as they can get their toes caught in the slits.

Im sure there are other things Im missing - but right now, Im brain dead. Ive had my twin 6 month old grandbabies since noon yesterday. And Rosie has been crying ALOT - and when one is asleep - the other is not.

A little puzzle put together house. you get a petsmart. it cost 6.00 and has 40 pieces total. if you buy more than one you can make a bigger crawling around house.

A climb around in toy. use to be my children's toy. The holes are big enough for them to crawl in. check out your local thrift store.

A Playschool picnic box. This was also a toy of my children's. These kind of toys you can find at a thrift store. No small pieces to break loose and hurt your glider.

My waffle ball with straws stuck through it. You don't even have to hang it up. You can just put it on the bottom of your cage or on a shelf in your cage.

A fleece rope I made.

A little hamster bed toy from petsmart. Cost is 4.00. See there are two suggie's sleeping in it. I put a piece of fleece in there and this is what my girls did. I thought it was the sweetest thing I ever say.

This is a dog toy from a department store. Cost me 1.00 and my gliders love it. I put a hook on the handle end and hung it up. there's a ball on the other end. My gliders jump on it and get it to swinging and they just love this.

The important thing is to make sure it is suggie safe. No loose threads. That is very important.

I hope they help you decide what to do. Please remember suggie safe is the key. If you need to; question a toy BEFORE you put it in your cage.

Just about anything safe for a toddler is OK for suggies. Just make certain they cant get stuck in anything - especially if there are tunnels. These can be found at thrift stores, flea markets andgarage sales.

Here are some of mine:

Fischer Price Noah's Ark

Plastic Toy Train Engine

This one you can make out of diving sticks, plastic lace and beads:

This one is from SuggieGym and is a 6 foot vine:

Rita, the one made from diving sticks is VERY unique! I hadn't seen that one before. That is something I'll have to do if I ever double up my flight cage. Right now though my cage is so full of other toys I made it's not even funny! (ok, maybe a little funny! :D ) ... I'll have to post some pics of my cage and toy set up later this afternoon.

My attempt at recreating the bridge made of diving sticks.

The alligator is their favorite...a thrift store find for $1. The giraffe-looking thing is from walmart in the toys section for around $13.

And this is the trampoline I made from diving rings, fleece, cording and pony beads.

Fisher Price toddler toys are great. Be certain to clean with a 10% bleach solution and rinse thoroughly when you purchase second hand toys, as a precautionary measure.

I have also made tunnels out of zip ties and landware mesh. I don't have any pictures of that right now, but that's fun because you can dangle other toys from the mesh.

I love all of your glider's peeking out the windows!
I'm curious as to how you made the tunnels... could you tell us?
