My suggies are to sweet when it comes time for a treat, mealworms. The only thing I want to know is do your SG come to your hand afterwards and bite you thinking you fingers are a worm. The just nip but last night mikky bit me so hard it drew blood. I did not pull away, I took the bite for the love of them - LOL. I am in south africa, durban and I love all the toys you guys have in your photos, Gliders don't seem to be as popular as they are overseas where they supply toys, etc but I have a lovely big avairy for them where i can stand in it and play with them. I am getting my pouches next week, where I had to get them made. I am going to make some toys this week-end. They have got some baby toys hanging up in their cage. This site has really been great - SG parents, you ROCK!!!

How COOL that you could join us all the way from South Africa! I'd love to see pics of your aviary.
Yes, mine are grabbers, and first they'll get their little nails stuck in my skin when taking the mealie,(ouch) and then if they miss, they seem to bite even harder, trying to get the "flavor" of the mealie, which they never do, because it's my FINGER!

I got in the habbit of using a tweezers, and it's real cute when they get a hold of the tweezers, and won't let go!

Yes that is pretty normal. They can get very VERY possessive when in attack mode. They are not trying to be mean, they just have that instinct to grab and bite when there are certain foods present. For some it is mealies, for some it is yoggies. And sometimes sugar gliders do it and sometimes they don't. But yes tweezers can help. Or just be quick when it comes to feeding.

I agree! I would love to see some pics of that aviary. And I am glad that you could join us on this site and I hope you find as much enjoyment as I do from it!

i wouldnt doubt it. it sounds like something he would do lol. my boys love their cashews. i have long nails (and they are my own not fake : P) so i just hold the piece of cashew with the tip of my nails like tweezers. but sometimes they will take the cashew first and then nip my finger hoping that there is more or other times they just miss it.

oh maan =X please tell me it wasnt while you were feeding your glideers you decided you'd have a taste as well.. hopefully you were in like... thailand or something.. i think they fry mealworms there!

we used to use just fingers to feed the mealworms to them.. but since they started nipping and biting our fingers even when there was no mealworm present, we decided to switch to the CHOPSTICKS. Squirrel has a special pair of mealworm chopsticks right beside his cage. now whenever he sees them his ears perk up haahahah.

note* chopsticks do not work on live crickets... they just crawl up the chopstick and onto your hand ._. very scary..

Our gang will stop what they are doing just for mealies. I have been bitten when two or more are trying to get at the ones in between my fingers. A couple will actually reach thru the bars and grab my finger and dig thier claws in to make sure I do not pull away. The smarter, laid back ones will get above the rest on a couple of the climbing ropes and lean near the bars and wait. they always get thiers' without fuss and biting.
Catman, well...plenty of protein I guess! Had to laugh and watch again!
