Hello All, I volunteer with a County, Animal Care and Control. A person turned in their, male?, Sugar Glider that they have had for 6 months and could not take with them as they are moving out of the country. The shelter is not allowed to adopt out in California, which brings me here. I am looking for a rescue that can help this boy. I had found one in NV but they relocated to Texas. Does anyone know of a rescue who can help this boy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Stacy
StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts Sorry, I do not know how to use this board. I did speak to Gail and she gave me great tips for the boy but did not know of another rescue near me. I am in Los Angeles, CA. She did tell me about this board, though. On the post with the mention of Val and the screen name, again sorry, as I do not know what that means. How would I send an email to that name? Thank you for your help. Stacy kyro298 Glider Sprinkles CO, USA 15262 Posts StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts Thank you so much for the link. It took a minute but I found the member part and sent a personal email. I am trying to get the shelter to let me foster him until we find a place, but they seem to have issue with it. If I can bottle feed, one day old pups, I think I could handle this, but it's the county. Thanks again! StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts Thank you. Normally, I do dog, cat and ferret rescue but I know those who I am dealing with. This I have no clue and was excited to find Gail though sadly she relocated. The shelter is strict, though will let me transport and I would hate to drive this boy to a place and then find out later it was not a nice place. That would haunt me. If someone was to email me private through this board, would it go to my private email that I used to sign up? I just want to be sure I am able to find any emails that are sent. kyro298 Glider Sprinkles CO, USA 15262 Posts KuroNeko Fuzzy Wuzzy USA 1617 Posts When you receive a private message, it is receive here. Not your e-mail. The rescue I mentioned in the post prior is located in Santa Clarita Valley. Los Angeles County. About 35 miles northwest of downtown of Los Angeles. I found the old e-mail and sent them a message to validate that the e-mail is still working. I told them about your situation and asked them to provide information about what they know regarding sugar gliders. As I mentioned I want to make sure they are actually knowledgeable before providing you with their information. How long will the shelter hold on to him? Are you pressed for time?
StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts You all are amazing! I am not worried about the shelter as I have worked with the Lt. for 11 years and he knows once he has asked me to save something, I will pull it off. I do worry that the animal may not get fed the correct diet, so the quicker I can get him out, the better for him. I will be begging again tomorrow to let me foster, but will not hold my breath. If all else fails, I can pull the baby out through my ferret connection, but still need somewhere to go. If she has to take him short term, she will. That is a 7 hour drive one way, which I don't love but will do, but would be better if I was taking to the actual person who could take care of him properly and find him a forever home. The shelter he is at right now, is not the one I volunteer out of, so I can't keep an eye on him and bring him what he needs. I am going to have to trust that they will. Sorry, that I just went on and on but to answer your question, there should be no reason for them to put him down or they would of never contacted me. StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts Well... I need a rescue to get him pulled. Then of course where ever he goes after that, would be up to that rescue. I did just speak to a local wildlife center and they have 2 Sugar Gliders and seemed quite interested with helping me with this guy. He will be calling me back once he checks with his higher ups. I am so hoping they can take him and that he will get along with the other two. Though, will it be a good life??? I don't know. I don't know about Gliders, so would having a couple of friends be enough for him? I would think he would get handled as they do teach the public about the animals. I want to do right by him, I am just not sure what is right, though death can not be the answer. I need to stay on the up and up or I will lose my pull status, which could lead to death for the next ferret that arrives at the shelter. suggieballer Starting Member 5 Posts hii i live in the central valley in CA and just adopted my 5 month suggie couple weeks ago and i want to find him a buddy and plz get back to me thank yu?? StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts I just went back to see what I did for Val and I clicked the send an email icon, not the private message below it. Hopefully, that is what happened. Your board seems like great fun and does so many things. To Suggieballer, I am sorry but I can not just hand him over as he is not mine to give. This is harder because he is in a animal shelter and they are strict as one must deal with Fish and Game. I need Rescue, though if you know of a rescue that would be willing to pull and adopt to you, I will do my best to help with that. Megs06 BANNED_ACCOUNT USA 1 Posts Suggieballer: The problem you'll face is that sugar gliders are illegal in CA so they're not as easily found to adopt. Good luck. StacyB Starting Member 0 Posts Excellent news! The Learning Center will take him and they are local. Fingers crossed that the paperwork with go smoothly and I can drive him to safety tomorrow! Thank you all so much for all of your help! Good luck. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well... Not necessarily. The problem I've come across is people overpricing re-homes For example. This girl on hoobly bought two sister joeys for her boyfriend. Well her boyfriend grew bored of them and she tried selling them and their cage for $950....a couple of months have gone by and she's now only dropped it to $750. $750 to pay for her irresponsibility... I don't think so Correction... she now dropped it to $700... www.hoobly.com/0/0/1447414.html
Here is her original ad asking for $950 www.hoobly.com/0/0/1398526.html
But as you will see here, they are not hard to come by www.hoobly.com/search.php?q=sugar+gliders&area_id=...

And as it turns out, one of our members lives 10 mins from me and is re-homing her joey because he's trying to mate with his mom and she can't afford to neuter him right now. i noe exactly wat yu mean i messaged the lady and told her if she really cared yu wudnt price them so high and really just talk to the person and find out but she was rudee she shudnt even have bought a pair if they were going to just give them back:/ Megs06 BANNED_ACCOUNT USA 1 Posts Two year supply of food. Meaning pellets. I wonder how much she'll drop the price once they're dead. :/ wildlifeangel Glider MN, USA 71 Posts I am very glad that the rescued glider will get placed! That is terrific. As for owners in CA... it IS ILLEGAL... and you could lose your gliders at any time. Most breeders will NOT ship or sell to Cali because of that. (I won't)
