Me two! I agree I spend so much money buying and replacing toys bc the ones at the store aren't long term types! And I feel it's such a waste they get there favorite toy and then I have to throw it away bc it won't clean nicely or they just aren't durable! If love to make toys ideas would be wonderful!!! Thanks for posting this topic!!

glidersandgear.com fixed the link for Pixie. =)

As far as making toys just use safe material and get creative there's really no set instructions on how to make toys.

Here's some basic things that most people use.

Rexlace or Craftlace (no glow in the dark)
Beads (once again no glow in the dark)
Rubber duckies or other animals
Easter Eggs
Other various plastic toys and tupperware pieces.
Straws
Wiffle Balls
Plastic Shot Glasses
Fleece

If you want to buy toys that gliders enjoy using but not paying as much as 15.00 per toy or something shop in the bird section in your local pet store. They usually have some pretty cool foraging toys just be smart about it and don't buy anything made with rope, etc.

Everything a dollar store. all you have to do is start putting it together. Kids always make the best!! give my kids the stuff they come up with cute ideals. If you dont have kids BARROW some lol. Not that hard really and soesnt matter what it looks like as long as it is safe ( no beads falling off and no sharp edges) you should be fine making them yourself. just have fun!!!!

A shallow tupperware bowl and some plastic golf balls & pompoms from the dollar store or any craft section in any store and whalah you have a ball pit!

Hit the baby section of the stores....the plastic chain links are good.

Barrel of Monkeys
Army men

I hit walmart & bought a few coconuts,...cut them in half, clean out the meat, drill a few holes, use waxlace & beads if you want and you can make whatever you want... a few pieces of fleece in a hanging coconut shell and they have a treehouse. Go to petsmart, even check it out online and go to birdtoys & you can get several ideas.

They LOVE them! And you know how excited they get when they wake & discover a new toy in their cage! With these, you can something newly shaped every few days & they always think it's something awesomely new!

They are so easy to clean, sink full of hot soapy water, rinse & dry & that's it! They can't really chew them up, although my Zoey gives it a valient effort! I made a small square about 3 lego levels high for my new boy, and put a piece of fleece underneath so he wasn't on the bars & he curls up & sleeps in it even over a pouch!

I highly recommend them!

For this toy, I used the bottom of a barrel of monkeys. I drilled three holes in it. two on the sides and one on the bottom. I took Craft Lace and strung it through the three holes. Added some pony beads to the bottom one and added the little green alligator (Dollar Store) Then I just tied the top two together and hung it up :)

Got the Plastic shot glasses from the dollar store. Used a sodering iron to make the holes. Food coloring is amazing!! I just took the dremel and made the eyes, mouth, nose, hair, and bow tie, Then I took a tooth pick and colored them in :) I also put pony beads inside! I used a sodering iron to seal the two halfs together.

Again, shot glasses at the dollar store, craft lace and pony beads. Sodering iron to make the holes. Then I just used tweezers to guide the craft lace in and out of the holes. I also put some pony beads inside and sealed it with the sodering gun!

I also have a rubber monkey toy, and a lion toy!!

Thanks! But ya know, that's what making toys for them is all about. We get to get creative, they enjoy them for awhile & if they tear them up we're not all heartbroken cuz we spent an arm & a leg buying them. We get to continue trying different things and watching them enjoy them which is always a ton of fun! And you know as well as I do, the things we can get at the Dollar stores & the ideas for toys are infinite so I think it's all good!
