Black beauties?
Question

Today I was offered a mother+joey pair of 'black beauties' for 450$ with cage and accessories because the person no longer has time for them. I'm still waiting on pictures of the cage but I have received pictures of the gliders(cute as can be) but how in the world do I know if they are actually 'black beauty' and not just standard greys? Is there a distinct difference? I can not for the life of me find any pictures of a black beauty next to a standard grey

I believe that black beauties have much darker markings and thicker stripes. I've seen a pic of one glider that was almost completely black. Even if they are standard greys, that is still a great price for two gliders plus a cage. (:

"Black beauties" typically have a dark chin stripe(the ear bars go down farther) and black knuckles as well as having darker bellies. But they are on a continuum, some darker than others.

Are the people selling the male as well? How old are the joeys? It can be stressful on the mom to move especially if the breeder plans on separating her from her mate as well.

Here are two of the pictures I was sent, this person doesnt exactly live close. I dont know if they really look very different then my little one to me maybe its just my eyes though haha. The person did not say they had the male she told me she got into a nursing program and doesnt have the time to spend with them like she had before. Im pretty hesitant on them mearly because they are fairly far away. The joey is now 4months oop she said her oop date was january 5

Does she have lineage? That might clarify the line.

No she doesnt, I dont believe she got them from an actual licensed breeder and she doesnt have the male glider, and didnt go into detail about him but I did ask about him. I mean the color really doesnt matter much but she did make a point to point out 'black beauty' and Im over here thinking well how in the world do I know thats true haha.
Im still on the border about them, its about an 11 hour drive from where I am at

Black Beauty is a variation of classic grey gliders - and generally do not call for a higher price than would be charged for a grey glider - especially if there is no lineage on the gliders.

Just my 2 cents from the pictures, the joey especially doesn't look like a black beauty - her chest is nice and white and her knuckles are pink! THe mom's knuckles aren't very dark and her ear bars don't extend past her cheek.

Thats what I was thinking as well, though I guess 450$ for 2 gliders, plus pouches and cage(though I have no idea what the cage looks like) is a fairly decent price. I think Im just more curious what a black beauty looks like compared to a standard grey because to me the pictures I was sent look the same as my little man.
I dont think Im going to get them, its a pretty long drive to take two gliders on in my opinion

Standards..and very pretty..Seems a reasonable price, if the cage is okay..11hours is quite a drive..Is it the halfway point?..If not, could they meet You at a halfway point?

This is my BB, you can see how his bar line goes all the way under his chin. And in general everything about him is darker, makes my greys look blonde.

Here is another photo and you can see how dark his hands are. I just finished clipping his nails, so he isn't too happy with me in this photo...

Chin strap is a myth.

The gliders in the pics you were sent are not BB. They are classic greys.

BB's have very dark and thick markings, with very dark 'eye liner' around their eyes. Their fur is also a deep charcoal coloring and their bellies have an undercoat of dark grey/charcoal. They also get darker with age.

Here are a couple BB joeys from one of our BB breeding pairs:

Here is the coat/ striping of a couple black beauties:

Here are a few face pics (with flash so they appear lighter):

The "very dark" black beauty listed above is actually a "black face" black beauty. Very rare- there are only baby 3 ever and they are all father/sons. Generally BB's don't get much darker than the ones in the pictures I've posted.

Here is a BB next to a WF and a classic grey (just his nose) on top:

Oh and this is why chin strap is a myth.

This is my WF Black beauty (she's gotten darker since these were taken)

Chin straps are unique to each glider. You can have light classic greys with full chin straps or black beauties with a very short (Or no!) chin strap.

I believe that's true, but they're more of a solid dark gray. I'm not sure about pure black, but the dark gray is beautiful too. Like I said, there's somebody on this forum with a beautiful dark gray glider, solid color and almost black. I just can't think of who it is!
