We have an extra bedroom that is just collecting junk and I'd LOVE to make it a free range sugar glider room. Has anybody done this (if so, can you ost pics)? Any tips or suggestions? Anything I should watch for safety wise? Any advice would be great!

Do you mean a supervised play room? Or a room they can go into when ever they please?

It would be their room. I'd put their cage in there and let them have free reign. I'd have toys and stuff from the ceiling and walls and put sleeping pouches inside the cage but they could come and go from their cage whenever they want.

I don't know who has one like that, maybe they can help you. I just wanted to express one of the concerns I would have, and that is I would be afraid to open the door to enter not knowing where they are.

If you are willing to sacrifice a whole room to give them all the free reign space you can (nice idea, btw) you could consider glider proofing the whole room but section largest portion away from door off with that building mesh stuff & pvc piping people use for cage building and include a entrance door with-in that, so you have a safe place to enter room and then access to clean & play with your gliders. Just a suggestion, it's the way I would do it if I had a room to spare.

Also, consider using sections of the builders mesh & fleece on areas of walls & ceiling to attach things to and for them to grip.

Check, double check, & triple check to make sure you have covered all danger concerns for gliders.

I don't have a free range sugar glider room. The get to roam in it for play time, though. There's nothing else in it other than glider stuff, and no small holes or anything they can get into. I also have the main play area's floor covered, since I have carpeting.

I'm far too paranoid to let them roam anywhere unattended. It only takes a second for something bad to happen. Especially with other pets in the house.

Omg, I hope I can do that one day :D Right now we have an open space living/kitchen, one bedroom (also our office) & a storage/laundry..but the house has an awkward hall (more like long, narrow, walk-in closet with no door) that's good for nothing other than extra storage..we're about to move what's still in it, from moving in, into the storage/laundry & convert it to a glider room. :)

Just try to use PVC and mesh rather than any un-coated metals..watch for holes, cracks, electrical outlets, and make sure you have a way to see where they are before you open the door to get in..a window in the door or TJones' suggestion. Good luck! :)

Make sure all vents are covered, no holes cracks nothing, no way to get out windows. I think a gider room is a neat idea, but I would not leave them unsupervised in the glider room, just out of cage play time.

WOW!!! That room is amazing! That's exactly what I'm thinking. I may not do it so they are unattended, that's kind of scarey now that I think of it. Thanks so much for the pics!

Alot of people have "glider rooms" for play time, but I don't know anyone that would leave them unattended in the room, theres just always that possibility that they could get out/hurt/etc... Though I love Twist-N-Shout's room... I want to do that when I have my own house. I wonder what it would cost to put a small drain on the floor in a room like that? Obviously with a really small tight grate, but just enough that you could mop/spray down the floor to clean... Hmmm

We have hardwood floors and when we used it for a rabbit room we bought a piece of linoleum that we could wipe down and not be so worried about it staining. A friend of mine has a ferret room and she cover the floors with blue tarps (held down with bricks). She's able to spot clean daily and then pull the tarps outside to hose them down.

Hi sweetgirls!..I don't think I've seen You here before, so WELCOME!
Just a tidbit..Please do a thorough cleaning of the room (disinfectant is a really good idea) before letting your gliders have roam range.
Rabbits can carry/have pasturella, and it is very contagious to gliders.
Good luck!
I can't wait to have a glider room myself..I think it is a dream for most of us.
Also, be careful & check the windows/screens carefully..Gliders have escaped from "almost perfect" glider rooms.

My gliders have free range, just make sure the room and door is glider safe, I had to ad a piece of wood under my door so they couldn't get out. They love it though if I put them in the cage they will bark all night!Baby covers for the outlets and un plug the red light when your not in there.

I have a gliderroom for all my babies and I keep their cages in the room but I do take turns letting a cage out to play all night. I made sure all vents were tiny enough so no glider could squeeze through. Door sweeps on all doors. I never leave a window open even though they are screened. I have all cages covered so whoever is out can't cause problems with another cage. Here are some pics of my room.
Dang photobucket is having problems...I'll post this then restart my puter and see if I can get the pics.

People have free range glider room they just don't talk about it. I don't have the space but I would try to put a door set up as mentioned or at least a normal door and then a screen door so you could see re the gliders are before fully opening the door . Cover any vents with reinforced pet fencing.
