This vet does not offer pain meds to take home for the glider after sugery. I don't know about you but I will not go through a surgery I don't care how minor without pain meds to take once I get home. Why do they expect the gliders to go through a surgery without pain meds once hey are home and trying to move. This vet that I go to does the surgery for $145 that INCLUDES the pain meds to take home. Please use this vet or one that provdes these meds.

This is why when you question the vet about the procedure and they tell you they don't give pain meds, you ask if they will give them to you.

Wow. I can't imagine a vet's office not having pain medications at all. That's a bit harsh.

Well Cameron I can't imagine going through ANY sort of surgical procedure without any pain relief. So I would think the same would go for an animal.

If you think about it, it's pretty cruel. Most of us don't think about it though. I've had 3 cats, they've all been spayed, neutered, and declawed, and I've NEVER even thought twice about the fact that they were never given any kind of pain relief. They just kind of had to deal with it. It wasn't until after I got into nursing school that I thought to myself WTF?

I am not an expert by far I am getting my male neutered and I can not imagine him not getting pain meds. I did the same thing for my dog.....I know that a lot of people don't get the meds or are offered them. I think its a personal preference not really a right or wrong.....it's surgery though something they have to put them to sleep for its gotta hurt afterward but they have no real way to tell us...I don't really know like I said it's what you feel comfortable with I guess.

UPDATE:
I had my male neutered at the Sugar Land Pet Hospital and it was a wonderful experience. The total was $125 and that included four days of pain meds for after we got home. Dr Brust called me after surgery and spoke to me about how everything went. I will continue to take poopy there for any further care. I am adding this vet to the vet list.

It wouldn't kill you to do a little research before you try to push a mill DR.

btanner- Its alright, you made a simple mistake, but know you know! And that's what the forums are for. We get lots of people coming here with the same questions over and over. Including people who thought Dr Brust was legit. I myself was one of those poeple wheni came here myself not to long ago. This is a great place to re-educate yourself on glider care! In fact LuckyGlider (Ed who runs his own rescue) madea series of videos debunking Mill Breeder Lies- its a great watch and very helpful. You should check them out on YouTube.

Dr Brust neutered my boys... I love Dr Brust, but I don't like what he supports. The more research and proof I was given, kinda scared me! He charges a decent price, and treats suggies so well, but but but ... look at his videos on youtube and look at the Lucky Glider videos and tell me how you feel! I did the same thing as you, so don't feel bad! As long as your babies are taken care of and are well.... IT's ALL GOOD!
And just ignore Catman sometimes, I think he's extra passionate (lol) about suggies, and he really hates mill breeders and those who support them! He's alright tho!
LOL...

Yep yep yep. Dr Brust equals big sellout. Is he knowledgable about sugar gliders? Yes. Very much so. And if I was in a situation where I had an EMERGENCY, and there were no other vets to go to, I wouldn't hesitate. BUT... I've watched his youtube videos and also wanted to claw his face off for the outright lies he likes to parrot. I wouldn't go to him because I don't care to support PPP or hypocrits.

Pain meds... considering that a glider in pain is more likely to self-mutilate, to my way of thinking, if a vet doesn't offer pain meds, and even give them their first dose, then I have to question whether or not that vet is even knowledgeable enough to be handling gliders in the first place.
