Sugar gliders do not eat sugar. Common table sugar is an absolute no no for these animals. The reason they were named "sugar" glider is from their early witnessed affinity for feeding on sweet gum sap, nectar, flowers and fruits. Foraging behavior is a lot easier to witness than hunting is. It was originally not known that these animals will also hunt for bugs and other small invertebrates.
In many diets, natural honey is often used to sweeten the nectar mix. It can also be given as a treat.
Honey straws can be purchased or made at home and given as treats. Yogurt is also another common treat.
DO NOT feed sugar to a sugar glider.
