Toys are important to caged sugar gliders to provide mental stimulation. In nature, the work needed to survive keeps animals very busy. In captivity, the natural behaviors to forage, hunt, feed, and play need to be exercised and stimulated wherever possible to essentially keep the animal sane. A sad sugar glider will quickly become an unhealthy sugar glider.
There are many common items that sugar gliders can use for play items both in and out of their cages. Some examples are:
- Plastic Straws
- Barrel of Monkeys
- Milk Rings
- Easter Eggs
- Ping Pong Balls
- Toddler toys
- Plastic rings
- Empty boxes to explore
- Bird chain and other toys
- Goodwill finds such as toys for children
There are also non-household items that can be added such as:
