Wodent wheel tragedy

 Wodent wheel tragedy

Do you have a Woden wheel ? We just lost one of our girls that we have had for 5 years she must have been trapped by it as we found her trapped - our other glider is fine but that have been together forever will she be ok ?
After tonight I searched injuries from this wheel and was appalled at how many injuries have occurred and why exotic nutrition is still selling it - my order came in Monday and now my sweet girl roo is gone
Has anyone raised one after a loss - will she be ok without her sister
Do I have any recourse against where I bought it or the company who made it ?

I am so sorry about your baby !! The Wodent wheels are inexpensive options that people routinely buy and so many gliders have been injured from them. I rescued 5 more girls last January and one of them is missing half her tail. They had 2 of those wheel in their cage and I suspect that’s how she lost her tail :-( I would suggest the Freedom wheel from Atticworx. It is all one piece and is on the recommended wheel list by many of my FB groups. I have a few Silent Runners (not Silent Spinners, those are very dangerous) and they are really safe and quiet but I have to wipe them out every day and take apart weekly to clean since they reek if I don’t. I have been doing this for almost 2 years and its terrible. The Freedom wheels are $10 more and well worth and I am switching all of mine over. As far as your remaining glider’s happiness goes, I would suggest getting her a friend or 2 or rehaming her if you cant. While some gliders can live as singles its not really good for them. They need to be with another glider for grooming and playing and just doing glider things that we as humans cannot do. She may start to get depressed and stop eating, overgroom herself (rip out her own fur), or become nippy with you. There are tons of gliders that need homes and you should look on some of the Facebook sites to see if they are close to you, or even on Craigslist in your area. Be sure to do a 30 day quarantine & vet check with fecals if you do take in another and also neuter any males that are intact. Good luck !

I am so sorry for your loss. I am a new glider owner and would really appreciate if you would let me know what wheel you purchased from exotic nutrition so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I am just about to order a wheel from exotic nutrition, but I would never risk the lives of the gliders I rescued after seeing this is possible from your post. Like I said, I am so sorry for your loss. Thanks in advance for giving more information if possible.
