: On my female glider, Roo, the tip of her tail is beginning to go bald. Sorta. Is she chewing the fur because of boredome, cause we let her out a lot. Or does she need a mate. We may breed her in the future, but should we get a male soon? All other glider's tail I see are nice and bushy at the end, but not Roo's. PLEASE help me. Cause if she needs a mate she will get one. She is a very spoiled baby sugar glider. She is not a year old yet. She is about 6-7 months old.

Roo,
My glider Yoda developed a bald spot on the back of his head, below his scent gland
at the base of his neck. I did take him to the vet for fear of, well, anything.
My vet told me to change his diet to include more protein, because thier natural diet
is mostly insects and tree sap. She also said it could be that he rubbed it off because of
stress, but I didn't find any loose hair anywhere. It could also be from lonliness, so I am on
the lookout for a female (in the Washington state area!!hint, hint:). She also checked to see if
it was some sort of bacterial infection, which may only show up under a microscope or uv lamp.
The first thing I did was to check the area for scratch or bite marks or broken hair, indicating chewing.
Then I called a vet who deals with exotics. I was lucky to find a good vet. I did change Yoda's diet
and I've been looking for a female. His hair has started growing back pretty rapidly after the diet change,
so I'm thinking that was it, he was getting malnourished. My bad!:(.
Get another glider anyway, that's what I was told to do. It may prevent problems later. A visit to the
vet isn't a bad idea, either!
Tara
