I was told by the director of the Department of Natural Resources that licenses were not required in our state (MD) to possess, breed or sell sugar gliders. I was told that they are looked at in the same light as hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs, now that they've been legalized here (as of July 3, 1998). As a breeder, private collector or whatever I am, I sell a baby once in a while and only have 6 sugar gliders of my own at any one time, and I do not have a USDA license or any other type of license. As a former pet store owner, I can say that when gliders first came on the scene, they were illegal here, and no license in the world would allow you to sell them. Now, pet shops purchase them from breeders, at exotic pet shows, and other places and sell them - they're popping up in MD everywhere, and licenses are not required. If there is a law somewhere stating that all this is wrong, I'd like to see it in writing - can anyone point me in the right direction?
