My point wasn't what to use that didn't have lactose in it. My point was that My gliders are not lactose intolerant. Mine eat many things that others SAY they shouldn't. You had made a post to STOP feeding gliders pudding. Mine love it. They Don't like the taste of yougart. I have no intentions of getting the lactaid 100 because it serves no purpose with us. The point I was trying to get across was that gliders are like people in many ways, That they also have intolerances for different foods, mine is strawberrys whereas anothers MAY be lactose. I wasn't looking for a supplement I was looking at a post that said " Good Lord! Whoever told you to feed her pudding? Sugar gliders should : : not have dairy or sugar. They are lactose intolerant and processed : : sugar is bad for them." people have been told for years that sun can cause cancer. but not everyone who is in the sun gets cancer. Some people have a lower tolerance than others. Sun in the most moderate use don't CAUSE cancer unless you have a lower tolerance to it. As long as your glider gets plenty of exercise a tiny bit of pudding, avacado, is fine but everyone should get in tune with their glider to be aware of any reactions to any foods. Not just lactose, as I said earlier mine has an intolerance to strawberries but that doesn't mean EVERYONE with gliders should not feed their glider strawberries. The training with the pudding is so small even lactose intolerance shouldn't be bothered, NOW IF they feed the pudding as a meal orin the food as a regular basis yes they may be a problem, but used properly ( a tiny bit on the finger when approching the glider) it will make a big difference with the nipping and biting. WHY is it you list the lactaid 100 EVERYTIME you post?? are you wanting to find out if anyone else uses it? you already said you haven't."There is a product called "Lactaid 100" It is yoguart with no lastose in it which is a little better than regular yoguart. I haven't been able to find it anywhere but there are people on a couple other lists that say their gliders love it. None of my 18 gliders like yougart anyhow. " As with people some want to live on health foods, others don't. But that doesn't mean all of our gliders are going to react the same way.. Do you eat the same foods your glider does? I do. and we are all happy healthy and definitly not overweight. If I told you what My gliders eat you would all probably have a fit. They get plenty of exercise and are well bonded. The word treat don't mean a meal.. : : For starters I give my glider pudding and as I tell others not too much just a little but not because of the lactose but because of the fat. Now As with People some gliders have an intolerance to lactose but not all.As far as it contributing to cataracts... that is an issue We are not going to get into here. Cataracts can be caused from weak cells, white tips on the tail, Sunlight, lactose, low blood sugar, diet, or just plain old age.. but again just like humans. There is as much causes for cataracts as there is for cancer in humans. This debate for the lactose was brought up months ago on another board because the gliders at an austrailian Park was eating out of the trash cans. Unknown what all was eaten or how long the trash had sat or how many parasites had touched the trash that was eaten. The facts are out there and a lot of people had their own opinions on the matter then, and to be honest I was glad when that conversation had fizzled. I use a rule of thumb to feed mine I tell people everything we SHOULD eat but most of us don't. NO salts, sugars, additives, presevatives, cheese, or fats. That if you do give these thing to use it in mine-ute portions. If we didn't do anything that may casue cancer then we wouldn't be able to go oputside, eat, or breathe. I have 2 very happy, healthy, gliders that just this morning gave birth to 2 joeys. they get a WIDE variety of foods, some of which isn't the best for them but they like it, but I give them a tiny little bit. You have to use common sense if you notice your glider acting strange don't give then that food. We gave ours strawberrys and it gave them diarerra, It didn't take a rocket scientist to tell us they had a reaction to it. I didn't come on here and tell everyone NOT to give their glider strawberrys. Gliders are like people each one has its own intolerace to different foods. If my glider gets cataracts, what is it that caused it? Their pudding? the fact I carry them with me al day and sometimes the are in the sunlight? low sugar? old age? are they missing something from their diet? NO ONE would know for sure. There isn't enough research done for ANYONE to make judgements reguarding that issue. They are our babies, as with parents who give the kids candy bars.. a little won't kill them..
