I use dried willow branches and I scrub them eveytime I clean the cage I also use the concrete conditioning perches that you can get for parrots to keep thier nails dull. These thing seem to work for me since I don't have apple or pear branches(not sprayed with pesticides) readily available. I simply scub the branches with HOT water and a bristly brush until clean I also use a non-toxic enzimatic cleaner to rid them of any oder and bactieria. To get rid of parasites, you should be able to juste microwave it for 15 seconds and that would get rid of them.
