Tara, I was told once that some of the states worry about 2 things, 1. in the staes that are warm they worry that if the gliders get loose on the outside that they may breed with other species and mess up the eco-system. 2. in the states where it is colder they worry again for the glider getting loose but they are worried the gliders would die and spread unknown diseases. Not too much is known of gliders.. and you don't see too many people with a kangaroo for a pet.. their natual home is one thing but they are not NATIVE to the states.. the usda is involved for very good reasons. we may not always understand them, but they have their reasons. I personally have a scary thought of a glider breeding with a squirrel and having one glide down on my face when I am walking by a tree. squirrels are carriers of many diseases.. imagine a mutant glider.. scary thought..
