: I have been told by a few breeders that they neuter the male babies themselves by tieing a piece of thread around the nodule that petrudes on the male. Is this safe? At what age whould you do this?? Thanks for any help you can give me

I do know of some people that use this procedure because they do not want to risk using anesthesia on their gliders. I discussed this with my vet and he and I agree that this is a painful and unsafe practice with a much higher chance of infection occuring after neutering. We much prefer the removal of the scrotal sac after the testes are decended into the sac. Another method is to have the testes removed from the scrotal sac leaving the sac in place. Both of these procedures are done under sterile conditions and isoflourine is the anesthesia used.
