Sugar gliders normally in live in groups of 5-12 in the wild (average 7). They are very social animals and I don't believe that they should be kept singly. I advise that they be kept in a group situation and a mix of sexes is fine. Neutering the males or spaying the females will prevent the group from getting too large.
