Losing a pet that is more than special is just like losing any loved one. You go through exactly the same grieving process as you would with a human death. It will get better, it just may take more time than you expected. My first glider, Charlie, was more than just a pet to me and I still have not been able to put him in the ground. At least you have accomplished that much.
I personally have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there is a little corner in heaven reserved especially for our beloved pets.
