I'm so glad you brought this up Mary. Ever since we "spoke" the other night I have been thinking about this and was planning on making a post myself.
The point that rubbed me the wrong way was that "the breeder" acted offended when you asked for references! Any reputable breeder should be happy (if not proud) to supply those. I know I have recieved e-mails from people that Maria has sent my way, and of coarse I'm always eager to sing her praises, but the point is she gives referals to contact past customers... no questions asked.
I checked out Maria as well. I asked around the glider community and talked to people that had her gliders. True, research played a big part in my decision, and hers.
Had I just been someone who walked in off the street, there is no question in my mind that she would not have trusted me with my special girl whom she had saved. She knew I had been on the boards for 7 months before hand, and knew I had done my homework.
There are breeders out there. They might be a bit further away than you would like, but don't settle if it doesn't feel right in your heart. I drove 9 hours each way to get my Belle. There were others in neighboring states, and I checked them out as well. Something just felt right about Maria as a breeder.
Don't get discouraged sweetie... there's a glider out there just waiting to be spoiled rotten by you! :)
