: I own a 1 1/2 year old glider I have had for the past year. She seems to be happy and well bonded even though I sometimes don't have as much time to spend with her as I would like. Recently I read about the self mutilation that can occur when a glider gets lonely.Needless to say this shocked and worried me. What I am wondering is how worried should I be? Is this a common occurence? Should I run out and get another glider to keep her company? Are there any signs to look for before this becomes a problem?

Single glider are fine as long as you dedicate the required time to them...at least 2-3 hours a day. Gliders are very social animals and will get stressed if they don't have the social interaction that they NEED. Self mutilation, hair loss, depression and even death can be caused my lack of social interaction. I would suggest spending more time with your glider if at all possible...if not possible then I would get another glider for company...but even if you get a companion you should spend adquate time with your gliders.
