the musk tends to build up on the males scent gland if he is a lone glider (meaning no mate). What you are seeing that looks crusty PROBABLY is dried up musk. Use a little bit of mineral oil and a q-tip and see if you can gently wipe it off. This PROBABLY will be a recurring thing unless he gets a mate or is neutered if he is a lone male. I had one male rescue i took in that had been a lone male all of his life and he had the crusty scent gland probably...once we found him a home with a loving female glider...he hasn't had any problems with is since.
