However many people do believe that eventually you should ahve two. I know very few people from all the boards I read that think youi should start with two. It is overall more difficult and more time consuming to have two. The bonding process takes much longer when you have to worry about bonding with two of them. I now have two gliders....and one of them doesn't even want to be with the other glider. Gliders need attention and love from their owners. They can become jealous if they never get any special time alone with their humans. Both of my gliders demand their special time.....and will sometimes try to push the other one out of my hand. They do get along, but my point is they love me and want to be with me...not necciserily each other. I think you will find things much easier with one...after that one is bonded you can ofcourse get another one. I am simply trying to make things easiest for you. There have been many people to come back and post that they wish they had bought one and not two. I will say that I know people who have many animals yet they do make time for their gliders. If the breeder you talked to has enough time he maybe has spent more time than the other has. I would go to www.sugarglider.net and look for a breeder there. I am sure that one of the 1000 users must live near you and can tell you where they got their glider. As far as the books...well the most recent sugar glider book was written in 1996...and has a lot of outdated information. Its not a bad book to start from, but reaserching UP TO DATE websites is more importiant. I am suprised about the briskys....briskys has always said they have a complete diet...and that its deadly to add anything to it...yet your breeder tells you that they need a suplement...either Briskys lied to her..or has lied to MANY glider owners. That scares me. The majority of glider deaths that I know of are due to poor health, caused by diets. Are you planning on feeding the Briskys? I would say if you can at leats go visit one more breeder. I hope you will have a better experience. You should find that most people gliders do not bite, esp that hard. With all the gliders I have handled and played with....which I admit is only about 9 all together. I was only bite hatd enough to bleeed one time, and that was by my own glider in the first three days I had him. We discussed having two or one recently one another board.....I know thats not your question...but almost everyone there said buy one first then get the second...Im going to post the link to that topic here. Good luck. http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/Forum5.aspL/000352.aspl
