The males actually use them to tranfer their hormonal smells on things they love. So when they are neutered they are no longer producing those hormones, thus no need for the glands. I hoped this helps but you need to give us a bit more info when asking questions such as this. I don't know whether you have the female or not (you didn't mention her age) or if you are thinking of getting one.. or if you have one in mind that is with joeys in the pouch. I wished I could help you more but I can only work with what you give me as far as info.. sorry.. Hmmm. The reason that the bald spot disappears is actually because without the hormones making a desire to mark the females - the males no long run their head and chest on the females. I think it is the constant rubbing against the gland that causes the bald spots. Btw - I got into a snit with a breeder who told me that the hair would NOT come back after neutering or all the bald men in america would rush ouut and have vasectomies . . . I asked him if those bald men got bald from rubbing their heads on the wives - He has stopped speaking to me.
