Perhaps the next time he comes back to pick it up (after Scout Camp) you can ask him how attached he is to it. Maybe tell him you know someone who has been looking for a sugar glider (just like his) and you think they would be a good match? Someone with alot of time on their hands? Just a suggestion, maybe he is too attached, but if he can leave the little guy all the time I don't see how he could be too attached.
