Subject: THEY SHOULDNT BE PETS!!!

This chat is basically about egging eachother on and getting support from people, trying to make yourselves feel better for doing such a cruel thing. Gliders should be wild animals, imagine how much happier they'd be. You all make me sick.

Lack of Domestication: Sugar Gliders are wild animals and do not possess the symbiotic qualities which allow us to live in such harmony with dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, etc. Domestication is not something that can be imposed on an animal; it is an evolutionaly mechanism which creates compatibility among two or more species. For dogs, this process has been taking place for at least 25,000 years! Sugar Gliders have been popular for only approx...3 years.

"Exotic" and "Fad" Pets: These terms describe animals which may be wild or otherwise unsuitable as pets, but due to careful marketing by breeders, have suddenly become desirable. They are, simply put, the "impulse items" of the pet world. Although Australians have kept Sugar Glider as pet for years, it should be noted that this circumstance does not completely remove the creature from its natural environment. Presumably, an Austrailian enthusiast would have access to the foods, nest materials, and information needed to help this tropical animal adpat to captivity. The question then becomes: "Can these elements be successfully recreated in the United States?" Could a Russian living in Siberia successfully raise a desert tortoise? Or residents of the South American rainforest successfully raise a timber wolf?
