I am an animal rights activist, and I hear what you are saying. However, I don't think you are totally right. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a sugar glider as a pet AS LONG AS THE OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE! I hate the term 'fad' pet, or 'pet of the future', and these titles need to go. I think many people who own sugar gliders are not qualified to. On the other hand, there are people who are wonderful owners and they take great care of their sugar gliders who would be no happier in the wild. I don't think the issue is as simple as wrong and right. Some people should not have them, some can. I dislike how young kids think it is cool to have a pocket pet so they get one and then let it die. I disagree with that. However, I've seen some very happy gliders and some very happy people. And I'm not sure if I get your problem -- you think it's okay that dogs have been domesticated, but not sugar gliders? What is the difference? Tell me, I'm asking seriously. I understand your concern for their welfare, but maybe you should fight the cause for responsible owners only instead of banning sugar gliders as pets.
