Hi, Drake! I think that you have done some good research and to answer some of your questions,,,,, The poop and pee, hum well, the poop is a lot like mouse poop and it dries hard if you let it. I just keep some kleenex around when they are out to scoop it up. The pee has a sort of spicey musk scent and is't a lot, maybe an 1/8th of a teaspoon at the most. It is true that if they are left in the cage for awhile after they first wake up it is less to worry about. The males really only smell much if there is a female around though they have been known to scent the owner while bonding but it too has a musky spicey scent to it just heavier. The do sometime skunk if frightened but it is a fleating smell and tollerable. Make sure that the bars on the cage are small enough and the latch is very secure, they are very smart about figuring out how to open them. yes they can bite and i mean hard when they want to and sometimes it's just because they want to do something that you don't want them to.
