When I travel with my gliders in the car I put them in a small secure cage about an hour before I leave so they have time to check it out and then fall asleep. Put in a pouch or snuggy blanket. When in the car, make sure they are in a secure place out of direct sunlight and away from the heater/air conditioner, but someplace they are getting air flow. Leave them alone during the ride. Mine get really cranky if I keep disturbing them and checking on them. Bring a water bottle, they tend to get thirsy. YOu should have no trouble with a 40 minute drive, just make sure they are sleepy and comfortable.
