Are my sugar gliders sick or just mating? I have 2 new sugar gliders I got 2 days ago, a Platinum and a Leucistic. They are very stained, and when I asked the seller about it they said it was just musking??? But, they are both very very orange and yellow. :( The male(Platinum) is 14 months old and the female is 9 months, they both have very wet butts. I'm not sure if it was the diet because they told me they fed HPW(I know it's not completely recommended), Yogurt, pellets, fruits, veggies, grapes being one of the fruits, but those aren't especially good for gliders... But what worries me is they also said they gave them monkey biscuits! They even gave me some along with pellets, that looked suspiciously like rabbit food? If anyone needs pictures of the pellets or gliders let me know :( I have pellets for them myself, from exotic nutrition(don't worry, it's a small part of their diet), and they look nothing like the pellets they gave me? They didn't even say they were giving any form of meat or mealworms. eggs new gliders won't eat dried meallies so i'm getting some boiled eggs and live mealworms. Their fur is also not soft at all, the seller had 13 other gliders, and the cage I bought them with was dirty! I wiped some clean, not alot, so it wouldn't cause over-marking. Can anyone help???? |

wet butts is a little concerning on top of the condition of their fur. Are you using any kind of bedding in the cage?
orange and yellow isn't necessarily a concern if the male is intact it's probably from their scent glands however their fur should still feel clean and soft and dry.
The dirty cage could account for some of it but a vet visit would still be in order.
Hpw diets....... there are more than one hpw diet, exotic nutrion has a powder and a premade both are crap.
critter love's is good- critter love has different formulas as well original, complete, and breeders formula.
Then there is a wombaroo powder recipe that isn't exotic nutrition or critter love
andddd then there is GOHPW which has added green juice....... so without knowing exactly what your using we can't tell you if it's good or not.
monkey biscuits some use them some don't, I've given them as treats every now n then but they are never part of a meal or in place of any part of a diet. Tpg sells them
as treats and promotes them for dental care.
The pellets are probably vita smart which does sort of look like rabbit food, like exotic nutrition diets and treats it's crap.
The best thing you could do diet wise is throw all the crap out and get them on a well known, widely used balanced diet like Bml or one of the critter loves.
solid poo.... Pleaseeeeee don't just assume a glider is not ill because it's poo is solid. Runny poo is a symptom for some things yes but solid poo is NOT a way to determine if a glider is healthy or not, a LOT of illnesses do not have poo related symptoms or signs. |

Ok, thanks :) They have solid feces and I think the sweating might've been because they weren't used to the slightly warmer temp in my house, I turned it down and I think they're good now :) |

Our first fancy vet charged $100 each, was not impressive, but had a nice
clean large vet office. that was for checkup but NO testing.
I'm in indiana.
Our second vet in small old building south of town, with 2 experienced
glider vets, looked over 4 gliders and just charged me $40 for the visit.
on a second visit with one new glider it was also $40 plus 40 for a fecal test
so about $85 total. The vet was resistant do to a fecal test, said that they
are not all conclusive, a sick glider can give a false reading, sick gliders don't
always expel the bacteria to tell they are sick. He said best is to look at

grapes I have heard are technically fine for gliders, the thought on them is
that once in a million something in the glider and grapes interact and the glider
can become very sick or die. We have feed our gliders a few grapes in the summer
time when we get them and never had a issue, glider love them also.
We feed ours, on the side, happy glider pellets/cereal. sold by critterlove
and pet-pro.com, they are healthy and good for teeth cleaning.
