Why is male glider attacking his own family over food?

This is very unusual and seems like whenever I get food ready for every night, he seems to attack his own family, his own wife and his own 2 sons instead of sharing? I have 3 cages and up to 14 gliders, which he's in big net (total 4) and I'm not understanding why he fights his family on food? I was always wondering why I'm hearing crabbing all night or whenever I serve foods?

It's always fresh fruits and veggies, the other families (cages) don't attack each other except him on his own family? I started to inspect it today watching closely and never realized it was him the whole time attacking his sons and wife on food? (the foods in the little dish only 1 dish) and right now since I found out, I put him in a small cage as a punishment with no food or water for the first time letting the little kids and wife eat first. Was always wondering why all the food on dish is almost empty and is all over the place after 10min.

Is there a reason why he's doing this? Can I make him stop his bad behavior towards his own family? Wish I noticed a lot sooner than weeks I thought it was just them playing and sometimes not getting along once awhile... If he's gonna keep continuing this I'm gonna have to sell him to someone who just wants one, he gets attention almost everyday from me, he's perfectly healthy too.

Please help me on how to stop his bad behavior not sharing food with his own family... Goal here is to get him to stop attacking his own family/not sharing food... This is a first seeing this type of behavior for me..

Your glider is food aggressive. This can happen when a glider feels that he won't get his share of food so he hoards it. A few things you can try is 1. Putting the food in the cage a half hour before they wake up. If a glider wakes up with no food they may feel like there won't be enough for all so one will start attack the others when the food does come. 2. Have multiple feeding stations. You can't protect the food if it's scattered all over the cage. What are you feeding them especially their protein staple? If a glider doesn't get enough nutrition in their food they can become food aggressive. How much are you feeding them? Every glider should get 1 tablespoon of protien, 1 tablespoon of fruit, and 1 tablespoon of veggies. If there isn't enough food that will cause food aggressiveness. I hope this helps. For now you can feed the gliders separately until he stops this behavior.

Wow. There is way more going on here.

Knowing what their diet is will help with answers.

"Punishing" him is wrong and by keeping him put away with no food and water will only INCREASE his food aggression.

Although they see themselves as a colony...it isn't "husband/wife/kids". If you've got two young males (the sons) in there that are coming into sexual maturity you've got a recipe for disaster. They and the father will be fighting for dominance in the colony as well as for mating rights with the mother. YES...both intact male sons will mate with the mother.

Are all three of the males in this colony intact?

Oh my goodness.
I agree with Blue. Please don't punish your glider with no food and water. He is acting on instinct as animals do, and will not understand the punishment. Instead, if anything, you should be giving him as well as his colony more food and in several spots throughout the cage. Since there's already food aggression I would probably make three feeding stations with plenty of food in each.
And also Blue is right about the males all fighting for mating rights with the female.
Last, welcome to the forum! It seems you own many gliders if I read your post right, but I would still recommend reading the posts on this site for information on diet, bonding, food aggression, and anything else that seems interesting to you. I thought I knew a lot about gliders until I began reading the posts on this site (and others!). I wish you and your gliders good luck!

i had this issue a while back. i resolved it instantly with changing up the diet, splitting the food into multiple dishes all at different corners of the cage with no direct line of sight or path for them to get from one to another, putting the food in before they wake up, and giving them enough food so there is always some left over when i feed them the next day. it is a problem that must be felt with immediately.

also like blue said, having 3 intact males with their mother is never a good idea. even if the food issue is resolved you will still have problems with male aggression. an intact male should never be with it's mother, that's a recipe for inbred defects.

also, after about a month with the new arrangement of food i was able to go back to only one food dish. i did keep the new diet and more food though and there hasn't been any problems yet.

I figured it had to do something with male dominance since I notice it was only males fighting over it, so what I did was made 3 dish separately and place em across separately from dishes and the problem stopped. Don't worry it was only a harmless 30min timeout lol just to figure out what to do and make sure those young kids get to eat first and it also worked that way to let kids eat first before the father, but started doing the 3 dish method.

This was first time experiencing this since I never really had 2 sons born, was mostly females or sister/brother but yeah soon as I recognized the male behavior, 3 dish worked. Thanks for help! Sorry didn't check first or came back sooner, forgot about this post! Did still read most of em and it's pretty much the male dominance thing.
