I need my babies to come home. i currently do not have the money to ship them to me and neither does the other person so a railroad is in need. i really want my suggies to come home. anyone who can help i appreciate

I am very confused by all your recent posts today. I'm sorry, I'm not usually judgmental, but this does not sound like a safe "rescue" environment, it all sounds shady.

You have 4 gliders that are NOT currently in the same state that your in and can't afford to ship them to yourself. Ok, i get -things happen!

Yet you are misleading some of the people who need to rehome their gliders (all over the country mind you!) by saying you currently have 2 sets of twins???

The skittles one that needs rehomed is a single male glider, his owner is hoping he will find a colony to join. So if he/she ends up turning skittles over to you skittles will still be alone, until you retrieve your 4 gliders from Ny?. But skittles owner isn't aware that you don't actually currently have Your gliders, their in a different state.

Curious as to how you can afford to purchase,transport,and house/cage/feed all these potential "rescued" gliders, not to mention Vet checks for the new arrivals, if you can't afford to transport your own to you or pay to adopt ones that need new homes?????

So here's a few questions, that can perhaps clear up my confusion.

Are the gliders that are in ny yours ?

Or are they someones that is willing to surrender their gliders to you, if you can find transportation from Ny to La.?

Do you actually have gliders residing with you in New Orleans that a single glider could join?

Can you afford the vet care the new glider/s will need?

Don't get me wrong, I fully support Rescue homes and groups. When they can properly and Responsibly care for ALL of the rescue-es needs. If I had the room and the money I would venture into rescuing my self, but the reality is... I don't.

My Reality is, I have 2 gliders 1 is a rescue we adopted, that I CAN afford to take care of and house properly and healthily. Taking on anymore than 2 I already have would only do a disservice to the animals.

Many of the rescues are not always healthy when they arrive, most males are not even neutered. Just yesterday my local rescue lady took 6 male gliders in to be neutered, 6!!. Thankfully her vet offers her discounts because she brings soooo many in! Last week she retrieved 11 gliders from the same person, 6 of whom were the males that needed neutered! They weren't all bonded so 2 more cages were required since the cages they came with needed thrown out!! Her rescue is now maxed out until some of them find new forever homes. She typically has rescues for 6 months to over a year before they find new homes.

This woman works around the clock between dealing with prospective owners and providing a happy home and proper care for the gliders and other exotic animals until they are adopted. The local glider experienced vet is on speed dial and she doesn't hesitate to take them in if need be, there is no wait till payday cuz I can't afford a vet bill right now. And the animals are not adopted out to just anyone, she takes special care to find the Right family for the Right rescues. And still manages to remain in contact with adopted families months after adopting.

Seriously I admire and commend her for all that she does! But I also know It is not feasible or realistic for me to try to do the same. I also realize it wouldn't benefit animals that really need the help if I couldn't provide it immediately.

I understand you probably aren't going to do a big operation like my local rescue lady but still...Please consider what you are getting yourself into financially and emotionally /physically before you take in any rescues. Especially think what is best for the animals you would be taking in. There are far to many gliders that just get passed around and don't receive the proper care out there already!

aww no honey i have my gliders with me i guess i must have said or wrote in wrong i apologize. no i would never leave my babies any where. i have to sets of twins. they are very friendly and loving and im just trying to help out the gliders.i said i needed a railroad because another person is trying to send two of his to join one of my to sets of babies. he doesnt have time for them anymore and i have all the time in the world for them. thats why i was trying to set up a railroad. I have mine with me, never away from me.

yes i have the proper cages for the gliders, i use a good diet for them and all that good stuff.
i have the proper room for more gliders i would never jeopardize there happiness,health of anything like that.
the only thing i need more of is wheels.

i respect the rescues around the world for doing what they do. it takes alot of heart to do what they do.
no i will not have a large rescue or anything like that.
once i can I will be a New Oleans Rescue probably in 2015 i will be setting all of it up.
I have a wonderful vet that is right around my house.
I hear you on the whole Gliders being passed around to much from house to house with out having stable living conditions an such. i wish i could take them all. even tho i cant and i know i can not do that.


please let skittles owner know my babies are with me at all times. I was an am trying to get 2 from this man who dont have time for them anymore.
I am willing to pay for neutering and such so once i get my rescue a float i can and will do this.

As for setting up a railroad - It is best that you work with only folks you actually know.

Usually railroads are set up to get a glider to a rescue organization that can provide specific needs of that glider - specialized medical care or adaptive housing for a glider that is handicapped, paralized etc. There is a network of individuals across the US that are known by the folks that are already established glider rescues that they can ask to help transport a glider.

Arrangements are made for individuals to drive the glider in need of care along a specific leg of the journey, house the glider overnight if necessary before passing the glider along to the next driver that will take the glider closer to its future home.

This process can involve many drivers and take quite a long time depending on the schedules of the individual drivers and the arrangements they need to make to meet each other along the way. Usually the distance each driver drives is only a couple hours one way from their home so they can return home after handing the glider off. This keeps the cost to a minimum - the railroad volunteers usually donate their time and the cost of gas to make sure the glider gets the care in must have.

The reason you need to KNOW all the participants in the railroad and have open lines of communications between everyone involved is to make sure the glider actually makes the entire trip. One person choosing to not make the meeting place and time to hand the glider off to the next driver can destroy the entire plan. There have been cases of gliders that just vanished with one of the 'volunteers' that were not well known by the other folks involved in a railroad who did not remain in phone, email or text contact with the others.

For relocation of gliders that just need a new home, this is not usually the best way to get them to their new home. If you are asking someone to drive the gliders from NY to LA - you should be prepared to pay for their gas, hotel and meal expenses for the trip and their return home unless they are traveling that route for other reasons such as a planned vacation or business travel. That cost would probably add up to more than you would spend to have them flown to you. A few hours on a plane would also be much less stressful for the gliders than being driven that distance, by someone they do not know.

wow you so correct i didnt know how the railroad process went. other people to me to try and get a railroad in action. because the flight was very expensive. the guy needs me to take them sooner than later because of certain issues that he and them are dealing with i do not know the actual condition of the gliders. he said that they are fine so that is what im am going off of. i didnt want to stress them by taking the on a plane but maybe that would be a little less stressful than railroads
