I have been wondering this for a while but before I ask the question let me just say that I have been feeding the Gliderkids diet for about 3 months now and my gliders love it and I highly recommend it. my girls are happy and their fur looks fantastic;)

anyway, I have been seeing people on Facebook and Instagram that post photos of their gliders nightly meal. for the fruits and veggie part of it they have a bunch of different fruits and veggies chopped up really small and then the staple. but they feed the same fruits and veggies nightly. like monthly when they make the staple, they also chop up a bunch of fruits and veggies and freeze them all in one bag so they just scoop out 2 tablespoons each night. is this okay? I know variety is key but this would save me time nightly. I am just wondering your opinion on this.

I make up the critterlove fruits and veggies.

THE TRICK TO NOT HAVING A FROZEN BLOCK..... ONCE YOU MAKE UP THE BAG OF FOOD, GO INTO FREEZER EVERY 30 MINUTES AND GIVE THE BAG A SHAKE. do this 2 or 3 times as its freezing and they will stay loose.

I make up 3 bags. ONE with already frozen veggies, just weight out the right amount and put into bag eazy.
two - chop up all the fresh stuff, whole apples, pears, butternut squash etc. and put into #2 bag. This bag will freeze solid if not shaked during freezing, and cutting up everything into small glider size pieces is a little harder.
BAG THREE is the leafy veggies, wife good at chopping this up kinda small.

takes me about 7 minutes to put food in bowls for 2 colonies and put in their cage.

The mix has a nice variety of stuff, considering my dogs get the same round solid hard food day and night without change, these gliders along with treats of papaya, yogurt and mealworms, have it NICE. sometimes I think they get better dinner then me.

well heres the thing they wont eat it that way either. was feeding them the veggies frozen and stored. but wasted more money bc they would only eat peas and nothing else. have had my girls for 2 yrs. did pricilla for a yr or so tried the critterlove complete and now tryin this and just cant seem to find a medium

try not blending it. when gliders eat, they don't actually eat the whole peice of fruit or veggie, they just bite it and suck all the nutrients out then spit it back out. blending it would make them eat the fibers they wouldn't if they could chew the fruit or veggie.

thank you candy, I will try the wax paper trick because my fruits always clump together. that really cleared things up for me:)

I prefer to feed one fruit and one vegetable each night because I just serve most of them right out of the package if frozen - no preparation just put it on the plate.

I buy green beans, broccoli, cut okra, mixed vegetables, sugar snap peas, spinach or collard greens already frozen & ready to serve. I sometimes add a fresh vegetable like cherry tomatoes, wax beans, or spring mix salad if I see them at the grocery store or produce stand.

I do cut up papaya, watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew melons into glider hand size pieces. I spread the pieces out on a wax paper or freezer paper covered cookie sheet and put them in the freezer. Once frozen I put the pieces of each in a zip lock bag. I can then easily serve one of these each night. I only need to cut up ONE of these every few weeks to keep some of each on hand. I buy blue berries, black berries, cherries and mango already frozen.

I have found that serving a mixture allows my gliders to avoid eating their least favorite fruit or vegetable EVERY NIGHT so that item goes to waste and they do not benefit from its nutrients.

When I serve even their least favorite vegetable separately - they will eat it.

If you look at the recipe posted above - it makes a HUGE AMOUNT of food. Someone posted that the full recipe from the CritterLove web site makes a TRASH BAG FULL - that would be the same mixture for MONTHS if you are only feeding one or two gliders.

Once you cut up the fruits and vegetables for the mixture you must stir the mixture frequently as it freezes to prevent the juices from the fruits from making the whole mixture stick together as one huge solid frozen block which would make it difficult to chop off a glider serving each night.

If you feel that is the easiest way to feed your glider - You might want to divide EACH fruit and vegetable by 4 and make only 1/4 of the full batch at a time - you would still have to store the rest of the bags of the frozen vegetables in your freezer until you make another batch.

Your gliders would get less variety - peas, carrots, green beans, corn, boc choi and cucumber for vegetables and black berries, strawberries, blue berries apple and cantaloupe.

I use one of the mixtures recommended from critter love because I feed OHPW. I like this because I don't have to chop fresh every night. When I have fresh I always share with my girls but for the most part I just use the mixture. They don't always get the same thing every night because there are so many different fruits & veggies in it. The only complaint I have the the amount each mixture makes, it takes over my freezer! I use mixture #3 because my girls LOVE melon.
1 Small Bag of Frozen Peas
1 Small Bag of Frozen Cut Frozen Green Beans
1 Small Bag Of Frozen Mixed Vegetables (Peas, Carrots, Green Beans, Corn)
2 Small Bags of Frozen Diced Green Peppers (or 2 medium green peppers diced.)
1 Large Cucumber (skin on, wash well)
1 Batch of Bok Choy (or 2 small batches) (Chopped)
1 Bag of Frozen Mixed Berries (Blackberries, Blueberries, Strawberries)
2 Gala Apples (chopped, skin on)
1 Cantaloupe or Tuscan Melon (Deseeded and rind removed)
