Just an update..waiting to hear back from the vet about a necropsy and if she wants to see the girls. They did sleep together last night and this morning, they are in their pouch together again! Yay! I hope that's a good sign and they're eating really well. They only played for a very short time last night after looking everywhere for him. :(

Poor babies. They must be so confused. Im so glad to hear they are doing better.

How are you doing? This has to be so hard for you. He was such a little sweetheart. I just love the pictures of him and Skitzy - and how much they adored each other right away. That was so sweet. He had such a wonderful home with you and was so loved - I cant help but believe he died peacefully and so very happy. And he was with his special person - all warm and comfortable. You gave him your best - you have so much to be proud of.

Kyro - Do you know Puff Daddy's true age? That thought crossed my mind because I was told Weasle is 3+ years old. That could mean anything, so I dont have a clue what her age is and it bothers me.

As painful as it is, please let us all know what you find out. Possibly it could help some suggie in the future.

<suggie hugs>

Well, they told me he was 3 in July but like you said, that could mean anything. They didn't take care of him and I'm sure they didn't have him as a baby. When I got him, they gave me NO background and were vague about everything. I took him and ran. ;) I really am OK and I appreciate everyone's concern..it's incredibly comforting! I had him with me on Christmas Eve after the vet at my in-laws because I didn't want to leave him home so they all thought I was a little dramatic, I'm sure. Yesterday, when they asked how he was and I said he didn't make it, they were like, "Oh-are you hungry?" They don't get it and never did anyway. Luckily, my hubby does. Who needs in-laws? LOL Just kidding!! I'm an in-law, I guess.

Well - WE all understand. You can come here and say whatever it is you need to say and we will TOTALLY understand. I know I would have done the very same thing you did.

Without knowing how old he was, it is hard telling how many years he went without good food. That takes such a toll on them and does irreparable damage....

So many people think they are rodents (not that rodents arent wonderful pets) and that diminishes them in their eyes. Its so sad as we all know what wonderful little creatures they are.

I didnt really plan on taking Weasel home that day, either - but after seeing the conditions she was living under, I had to. Her cage and everything in it was encrusted in poo. Said they would give me her cage and as soon as they touched it - it fell apart. It was held up by clothespins. I dont know how they even got it in the back set of their car (I met them in the parking lot of Petsmart), They said they hadnt really had anything to do with her in 2 years - just put food in there and sometimes they forgot to do that. Ughhhhhhh - I took her and ran, too. I took her meager belongings and washed them 3 times - they still stunk, so they got thrown in the trash. They didnt give me any background info on her either - like you said, very evasive. I have emailed the lady a couple of times, but she never answered me.

Kyro, I have been thinking about you a lot the past couple of days and I told my hubby about you and your loss, he wanted me to send you his regards. I hope your girls recover from their loss, give them lots of love and comfort, that is what heals best.

When Huubert's time comes, I know I can always rely on the people I've met here to help me keep sane and give me support. All you guys have such big hearts it warms my own every time I see you share them. I hope everybody here knows that in the time of sorrow and when "normal" people can't understand your pain in losing your furry friend, you can always come here for comfort

Thanks, Rita and Rauha...thank your husband as well. I agree about the people here...I wouldn't prefer to talk to anyone else! Who wants to be "normal" anyway? The girls are still sleeping in the same pouch so I'm hoping that, at least, is back to normal. I still have not heard from my vet so I'm going to try to get a hold of them again.

I finally talked to the vet this morning and I will be taking him in for a necropsy-they'll do it in the office. The girls will be seen tomorrow afternoon although I truly think they're fine. I would just really like to know what happened, if at all possible. Thanks again for all your support...you guys truly are the best!

OK-just got back from the vet and she says the girls look fine. She was also the one that did the necropsy and she said he had a very enlarged liver (probably fatty liver sydrome attributed to his weight) and some fluid in his lungs. She also said she couldn't rule out a heart problem. Basically, she didn't have a definite answer, but he obviously had some internal problems. She also says that since it happened so fast, it probably wasn't something contagious and more likely something chronic. She offered to send tissue off for histology and pathology but I passed because it was expensive and I really just wanted to make sure the girls were OK. So, there it is...

I can't believe the poor girls didn't have a heart attack themselves. The vet was so jumpy with them and then I felt bad because Skitzi crabbed at her and then I told her, "Kiki doesn't crab or bite". (That really is the truth and she didn't crab or bite last time she was there) So she reaches for Kiki and what do you think she does?! Crabs louder than Skitzi and bit and DREW BLOOD! I cannot even believe it. I didn't even know what to say except "Sorry!" I felt so bad! They both hid behind me in my hair and wanted nothing to do with her. I finally got them back in the pouch and asked her to do the exam in the pouch instead of wrapped in a towel and she did. They didn't crab again. So, that was my exciting afternoon..

Well at least you have peace of mind knowing there was nothing you could have done that would have changed the outcome. Also it was internal so your "girls" are not in danger.

Not being on good behavior with the doctor is understandable...they are upset. Time will ease their missing him...

People that don't love animals never understand how we feel...they are not just pets they are family. At least you know where to come for support...we ARE family here and do understand the saddness.

You just have to remember the horrid conditions you SAVED Puff Daddy from and that he had 6 months of love and an excellent home. I do believe in Rainbow Bridge and that he is happy, healthy and playing with "friends & family" that crossed over before him.

Take care...everyones thoughts are with you and your family...fur butts and not.

Kylah - Im so happy to hear your girls are alright. Im sure it had something to do with Puff Daddy's previous diet and the damage was done before you even got him.

Did the vet say anything about his age?

He was being fed Eucalyptus pellets before I got him and occasionally frozen vegetables. She wasn't sure about his age but she did say that the condition of his liver wasn't something that just occurred. That was a relief.

You can feel comfort in knowing that it wasn't something you did or help make worse. Thinking about it even furthur I bet you prolonged his life and made it better...poor thing. :(

I'm sorry for your loss...any chance he might have passed his genes to anither female; I mean was he nuetered?

I now know that there isn't anything I could've done and both of the girls are really healthy BUT he was sweet as can be and they were all so close that it breaks my heart that they aren't together. I mean, I know it has to happen at some point, I was just hoping it wouldn't happen in my house. You just don't think about it and I'm not good with those kinds of surprises. He was neutered and unfortunately, I know nothing of his background or if there were any offspring before I got him. I don't think so though because he was alone for years. I just miss him. period. :(
Hugs to all of you that have lost any suggies...or any pets for that matter. It would appear that our furbabies have trained us all very well...

Sending suggie hugs to Kylah <HUG>

We will all miss Puff Daddy. The pictures of him and Skitzy are just priceless. I have looked at them several times since he passed - and cant help but get all teary eyed.

Puff Daddy was sent to YOU for a reason. We all know how much he was loved by your family and the girls these last few months of his life. And he knew it, too.

I am also behind on this one since I was away from my computer when this all happened, but I couldn't see this thread and not say anything! I'm so so sorry to hear about Puff Daddy! I loved seeing pictures and hearing stories about him! I think it was amazing what a turnaround he made when he came to live with you...from shabby and sad to shiny and fabulous! He always looked like a big fluffy bundle of love and I know you and the girls must miss him terribly! Please take comfort in the fact that you gave him an amazing home and life while he was with you. Many many many condolences from me and my gliders.
