No to:

onion, garlic, catnip, fatty foods, high sugar foods, fried foods, artificial sweeteners and preservatives, salty foods, chocolate

Questionables: Raw lima beans, soy products, dairy and gassy foods like broccoli and cabbage (just because it may upset their bellies), citrus fruits for the same reason

Treats:

mealworms, yoggies (yogurt drops), dried papaya, dried berries, occasional unsalted sunflower seeds (in shell) and almond slivers

Suggiegal, read this thread: http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16712

It's one I bookmarked several months ago. It discusses fruits and vegetables, and how to get the right balance. It's not enough that the food be safe as in non-toxic, it also has to have the right amount of calcium to phosphorus, as well as other vitamins and minerals. Also, I noticed the list you posted has alfalfa, which is a grass and is suitable for rodents such as hamsters and guinea pigs, but not at all for gliders. Their wild diet consists in large part of insects and sap. Many of the other items on the list are fine, but some such as corn should not be fed as a large part of the diet.

They're listed above on the veggie list but they are the same thing as citrus fruits when it comes to feeding in monderation because they're so acidic.

Too much citrus will cause diarrhea but it isn't toxic. Joeys should not even be attempting to eat mom and dad's food before around 5 weeks.

well he is fine now all bright eyed and happy he has gotton solid again seems you should never listn to a breeder I thought since he is so lil still baby foods and not too rich stuff would e good for him but she told me to give him the same as she is used to and the vet said it was due to just too much at one time he gorged himself the first night apparently the breeder did not ever supply him with berries or fuits just a pellet diet he is doing well after a few days of just vegies and cicken with a tiny amount of yogurt and only one berry per night getting the bml diet inredients today and that hould make them even better. Thank you guys for your help I am jut glad he is healthy and happy :)

Wamabat, I think it is important to note that there are good, reliable breeders, and then there are the other kind.

Judging from what you are saying, you dealt with the other kind (which a lot of people do before they know how gliders are really supposed to be cared for.) I think the good breeders ask questions about you and your home, what you know about sugar gliders, etc., before they let you take one of theirs home. They are more interested in their baby having a good and loving home than how much money they can get for it. They also provide feedback afterwards, some even let you return an animal if you can't care for it anymore or decide suggies are just not for you. Breeders in the US also have to be licensed. If they can't show you a license, they aren't doing what they are supposed to.

I am glad that your joey is doing better and that you've joined us on this site! I'm a new suggie owner and the information here is the best I have found!

yeah I work in the pet store where the owner is more concerned with money I hate to say :( but she does have a few people there like me who are researching the needs of the different pets and exotic breeds as well I have helped her a lot and shown her the fact that just because you can make money dont mean a profit if you are sending babies into the wrong homes and with the wrong info. SHe is attempting to make things more about the nimals she does love them all just does not understand them very well , the breeder was the lady who actually drove to carolina from tx last week to pick them up which I hate that far of travel can not be good for babies period. she breeds but this set was not her own it was more like a shipment thing where she had to pick up from elsewhere cause she had none available to sell to the store I do make sure people go straight to a vet with new babies and have access to proper diet and safety concerns being answered we work closely with a vet here and I am going to ask him for more reliable info today when we go back in for another check up .My question now is what diet is the ideal for them on a regular basis I have heard the bml is great and natural but not sure anyone got a good diet to go with ??

That's not always a good indicator either. The company of the 3 P's has a USDA license.

thak God for good vets come to find out he is not a he even though thats what the breeder said and what she showed me was actually a prolapsed anus from having diarreah much longer than just the five days we have had her. NOt that the meds were easy to get down the both of them but only have to have those for three days and one more check on the prolapse in a week . Glad to know I got the girl I wanted not a boy lol I did not want a pair to breed I wanted two girls and now that is what I have lol IT MAKES ME SICK THE WAY SHE WAS CARED FOR PREVIOUS TO MY GETTING HER!!! I know I will be able to give her a good life with loads of time and love and as well now fieona has a lil sister so nobody will ever be lonely or feel out of place :)So the baby shreck is now dragon :)
