She continues to deflate- however, she has stopped eating. The vet told me to blend fruit together in a paste like form and try to get her to at least lick it... she goes back to the vet in the morning. This isn't a good sign...

Oh NO....Let us know what is happening when you get back. Is she drinking water at least. Since gliders get most of their fluids from the moisture in their food I hope she's not getting dehydrated. That can happen really fast and with the dry air from running heat sources. Have you done a tent test. How is she doing with that. I'll say a prayer for her tonight and await your update tomorrow. Good Luck and hoping for a good outcome.

Not good news- while the vet was examining her she passed...

The vet said that she may have been over stressed and combined with not eating she wouldn't have lasted another 24 hours. He said their was nothing that we could have done differently, sometimes with older gliders it's best to let their bodies do what they can and hope for the best. She was dehydrated despite my all night efforts to get her eat or drink. I didn't think it would have happened so fast- she was doing really well just 2 days ago.

He did say that her decrease in body air was a good sign that she was healing her interior wound- but there may have been an infection or other complications inside her that wasn't visible. I didn't opt to do blood tests for further investigations... I couldn't stand the thought of her being poked around on- she just looked so peaceful...

I was thinking the same thing.

Val was just trying to help and she KNOWS how fast things can go bad.Its sad you didn't take her advice. I'm not sure how you/vet could tell she wasn't in pain, gliders hide it very well. Its a shame you didn't get a necropsy done, the information could have been used to saved someone else's glider.

Sorry the glider died

Bless you two sorry your glider passed and sometimes you hope that animals will just work it out themselves-I had a ferret (not a sugar glider I know but an exotic) that was acting sick but not too much so I gave her a chance to work it out herself and when she didnt I went to make an appointment but she was already gone. Make sure your gliders get in for a checkup and again sorry for the loss

I'm so sorry she died. Wish we knew exacyly why as catman stated the information collected by having a necropsy done can benefit the whole glider community and possibly save another glider showing the same symptoms.

You said the vet said sometimes it's best with older gliders to let their bodies do what it may. Uhm how old was this glider?

She was 10 years old.

He had already told me that surgery would be too much for her system due to age and regardless she was projected to heal in about a week. That was earlier this week when I first posted...

When I took her in this morning (as an emergency case because she hadn't eaten in 24 hours)- he said it was pretty clear that she wasn't going to make it and that he could give her fluids and keep her overnight- hoping she would pull out of it- but he wasn't too hopeful....

She didn't last through the vet consult.

He explained that I had the option to do more testing but I just wanted to take her and leave. I know that some of you feel that I should have done a necropsy to get final answers but when you've lost a sweet glider, all I could think about was getting her home so the kids could say goodbye. It was a nightmare of emotions and I just wanted it to be over.

She lived a good life and it's been a sad sad day... She appeared to be getting better- I never expected this.

I am so sorry to read about your loss. This is the day that all of us who have had our babies for awhile dread. It sounds like she was extremely bonded to your family, and you gave her a wonderful life.

I'm really sorry for your loss. This post will help to show other newer glider owners how quickly a situation can change. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight.
