Question:
I just got 2 sugar gliders on Monday. They are just 8 weeks OOP. I couldn't find a "popup" tent, so I bought a kids camping tent. I'm sitting in it right now...the gliders are trying to crawl up the sides, but can't because of the material. I am worried that they will get their claws stuck. Is this the wrong type of tent to use? Do you usually use one that is completely mesh or something so that they can crawl up it?

Thanks for the help!

If you could post a pic that would help....

I'll post a couple pics of mine...it's just a small $24 tent from WalMart.
It has a plastic bottom, sides are blue then a gray tent material, then the top is mesh. Mine cannot climb the sides, it's too slick, nothing to grab onto...I got a bird ladder from PetSmart that I just lodge against the side to let them climb, also take other things in. I will also put them on the mesh so they can climb, but beware,...they will launch to you! Facehugs are a real possibility!

I attach fleece strips from the tent seams (pic)

Attaching the fleece is a good idea. That will give them something to climb on. The tent looks similar to yours...
I just started looking around and saw that a lot of people had full mesh tents and wondered if I had gotten the wrong thing.
Also, when you first start out, do you keep their pouch in the tent? This is our first time in the tent...they came out and ate some grapes, walked around for a few minutes, crawled over my leg, and now they are back in their pouch...

I got my babies at 8wks but didn't start tent time for about a month after that so it's a little bit different. Yours are still so young they may just want to sleep more,...I do know that my Jasper LOVES to sleep & if I give him access to a pouch he will take advantage of it. I will take a pouch in with me simply to make exiting easier but I don't let them have access to it.

I take pom pom balls in because I can roll them across the tent floor & they chase them. A feather cat toy is a favorite of a lot of gliders. They will play & wrestle with eachother & mine attack the tags hanging on the tent. I take my computer in with me (I have a covered foam thing to keep it from overheating) they like to hide in the crevice.

It really doesn't take a lot to keep them occupied...

So do you think that I should wait on "tent time" and just let them explore their cage for another few weeks? I don't want to "rush it" and make them more scared of me.
I have a pouch that I carry them around in a few hours a day. They are usually okay in it, and only crab if I wake them up on accident.
Thanks for the advice!

I only waited because I didn't have a tent. I know some people will tell you to wait until you bond more. I say play it by ear,...if tonights tent time went well, keep it up,...if they seem very frightened, postpone for a while.
