I am new to the site, I have a big suggie family (10 total) and just recently about 2 weeks ago had one of my babies 10 weeks OOP break her tale in the whodent wheel as well. She didn't rip it off but broke it and had some hair ripped off . I did take her to vet immediately and she was put on antibiotics and pain meds until it healed. She is doing much better now. Hairs not growing back yet but the area has scabbed and is healing nicely and she seems to not be in much pain now and is running and jumping better. I removed the wheel that night after looking up and reading other horror stories (thought I had bought the safest wheel available when I got it) and am very thankful for just the break versus a full removal like your little guy. I am glad your little man is doing better!! I ordered 2 new stealth wheels as I have 2 cages for my kids and they love there wheel and have been missing them. Its taking forever for the shipment to get here!! Question? My little girl, her name is spice, she runs and jumps so funny now. Does your little guy do the same? Its rather cute if you ask me but I feel bad for her seeing her run and hop funny. Do you think it will really impact her/them?? rocat Joey 21 Posts before you throw your wodent wheels away, you can create a toy out of them. clean them good. take the axle/stand out of them. lay them in the cage and stuff with fleece strips. There is also someone that Double Boogie knows that can make a stealth like wheel from the wodents that are safe and they use them for the rescues. So don't throw them away, recycle :) DoubleBogey Fuzzy Wuzzy USA 1244 Posts quote: Originally posted by rocat

LOLOLOLOL!!! I am Double Boogie! See, and I think that name fits me a little better than DoubleBogey lately since I have had a sinus infection. Ewwwwwww! Anywho - THANK YOU RoCat for thinking of the effort - you ROCK!!! If you have wodent wheels...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider donating them to Sari's rescue. They rebuild these wodent's into SAFE modified wodent wheels for the rescues. I have a couple of these and they are SUPER cool. They have NOTHING in the middle and are mesh based like other safe wheels by the time they are done with them. Please message Kim Colfer (kcolfer) or myself to make arrangements to send them in. It's best to message KColfer (as she is part of the rescue) here or on FaceBook but I am happy to help as well. I will also get a post up to get the word out. I have just started collecting for them. BUT, I am going to see them THIS Saturday - so if you have any NOW, I can take them for you or if you are out of state - you can send directly to KC. SuggieSpoiler Super Glider FL, USA 278 Posts I have two questions, How would it cut off tails, hands, etc? And with this wheel how can you fix it to where it doesn't cut off or break anything? Thanks! :) okusandman Face Hugger 870 Posts From glidercentral - which if you look has lots of these: ----------------------------- My best friend of 17+ years, had her glider get her tail caught around the cotter pin, and her tail broke and had to be amputated. The glider was found still caught in the wheel. Another close friend, we were on the phone when she found her glider. The wheel literally ripped off her tail, and left a stub. They found the rest of the tail in the wheel later. Just a few months ago, I fostered a male who had his tail broken because of a Wodent wheel, and it had to be amputated twice (granted, the second time was because the first surgery went badly- which was why I had him). Three of the four gliders in that cage lost at least part of a tail. Since she trashed the Wodent and got a better wheel, they've had zero problems. And I've heard dozens of other horror stories. Those are just the injuries I've heard of from my "real life" friends. I was lucky- I saw the potential problem with my own, pulled them out and ordered Stealths that same day. I had a breeding trio at the time; I heard crabbing, looked in the cage, and saw my 4 week old joey hanging on for dear life to the cross bar while Mom raced in the wheel. I was able to stop the wheel before the baby fell, and they never got it back. There is absolutely nothing they can change on the Wodents that would convince me they're a good wheel for gliders. Better to spend an extra $20 on a wheel, than hundreds in vet bills. An ounce of prevention and all that jazz.

The girl who said her glider's hand was caught and they had to be cut out of the wheel also said that her friend also had a wheel that was the same kind without a "string" in the middle. Either one of them or both are not Wodent Wheels. They aren't made differently. This is the kind of thing that makes me ask "are you sure it was a Wodent Wheel?". I just don't get what okusandman is trying to prove I'm wrong about when I'm not stating anything. I'm asking if everyone is positive about the type of wheel causing injuries. If they are GREAT! Let's get some documented proof and help get them modified or off the market! But hey, that's just me...
PatCC Joey 22 Posts I just rmoved all three wodent wheels from my cages. I had no idea they would be injured by them. I will replace them with stealth wheels but no more wodent wheels. I won't take a chance that my gliders will be injured. Thank you for the heads up. PsycheGal Joey USA 18 Posts Hi everyone!!! I just want to say THANK YOU for all of your help that horrible week where my poor Zan ripped off his tail on the stupid wheel. I would like to report that Zan is doing FANTASTIC. He recovered very well and everything healed fast. He didn't even have a noticeable fever. He now simply has a furry nub where his tail used to be. He does not seem to have any balance issues or gliding issues and happily plays, climbs and jumps as usual. He is actually playing right now and doing little flips all over the place :) So sorry I disappeared, my motherboard fried and I only recently got a new one so I am finally up and running again. Oh and I did have my baby girl :)~ She is adorable and loves watching Zan and Dargo play at night. Hope everyone is well and really, thank you all again!!!
