Have been wondering about feeding my babies live mealworms. I've done the research but, what i am looking for here is real life experience. Do your suggies like them? How old are they (sugar glider) before you would recommend feeding them? Etc..... I feed the HPW diet. I've read that in order to feed mealworms you should add a non-phosphourus calcium supplement to the food. Would that change my diet completely or is that something i can just add along to the diet I am currently using? Helpful advise is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Mine LOVE their mealies. You shouldn't need to adjust any vitamins or anything. I ordered 3000 several months ago for my 5...as you can see I still have quite a few left. I feed them every few weeks so they are being gutloaded with good veggies (hence the lettuce seen in one of the photos amongst the mealies & bedding) They get bigger & bigger and the babies really enjoy them. I have offered mealies from the beginning (8wks) with all of mine. Sometimes they take to them right away, other times they need a few more weeks to get the hang of eating them.

Mala is my mealie freak! She chirps away as she munches & I can never feed her fast enough so she just hops in and helps her self.

Oh My Gosh, mealie overload lol. Lucky lady that Mala! I give a few mealworms every evening to my gliders...between 4 and 5 each by hand b/c Remi will go to all the foraging spots and take them all as his own before Taz and Tinker get a chance. They LOVE LOVE LOVE mealies, as well as crickets and grashoppers.

Ha ha ha *imagines criket trying to out jump a suggie - picture Jiminy Cricket's expressions as he's being chased by something*

I should do that just to see what mine do...so far I have only given them dead, cooked crickets ordered from Exotic Nutrition.

In my opinion, you do not HAVE to feed live insects to gliders. There are perfectly healthy methods to feed them without including bugs. Bugs offer little more than mental stimulation and variety.

However, if you do not feed live insects to your gliders, I would only request that you go without your favorite 4 or 5 foods until you can feed the gliders live insects. What makes you happy? Chocolate? Coffee? Pasta? Chips and salsa? No problem! You don't NEED any of those to live and be healthy.

But what I've always said is, Life without coffee wouldn't really be "life" - not for me! That's what live bugs are to gliders!

Meal worms should only be used at treats. But I bet they had a blast in that worm farm.
