You need to take them to the vet whether you can afford it or not, even just dropping them off. They will take care of them if you cannot pay but you will not get them back, they need a vet ASAP!

They don't need a rescue right now, they need a VET! You need to call around and see if there is an emergency vet that will see them NOW! You can worry about finding them a rescue later, they need to see a vet immediately.

Maybe this should be a lesson to you not to get animals if you can't take them to the vet when they are sick. Have you even tried to do what huntman said and CALL at vet atleast?? Have you called the humane shelters to see if they can take them in? Have you called or contacted anyone on this matter OTHER than this website?? We are here to help but in matters of health you can't rely solely on a forum. Animals get sick and it's cruel neglect to NOT take them to the vet. I cant' always afford it either but I call my vet and take them in anyway and we work something out. They are my pets and my responsibility. That is the pledge you are making to these or any animals when taking them into your home.

I am not trying to be mean but I get so sick of ppl saying I can't afford it... In my opinion if you can't take them to the vet when they are sick you shouldn't own pets.

Just to add info to this thread - I have had jet black, stinky diarrhea several times in rescues, and every time the gliders tested positive for coccidia. This is a common symptom of parasites - particularly of coccidia.

That would make sense then, with all of them living together. Someone who is experienced with gliders really needs to step in here and take over this situation.

if they are not sick... then maybe they are just scared. my gliders did this when i first got them. they pooped when they heared loud noises.. an sometimes when i try to pet them. it takes a loong time for them to get use to you. im hoping they are just scared an it will eventually be controlled

It's true that they can poop when scared, but when there's jet black, liquid, stinky poo, it's usually a sign of illness. I spoke w/this owner last night and she has made arrangements to drop them off at one of my vets today. I'm waiting on a call from the vet about them now, and (barring any changes) will be coming to me for care. I'll update when I know more.

These gliders are now w/me. Everyone is now settled after a very stressful evening. It turns out she surrendered 5 gliders. They are all very stained, underweight for their body size and now being treated for parasites. Keep sending good thoughts for them to get better.

I didn't find out there were 5 until my vet friend called me to say they'd been dropped off. I did talk to the girl who surrendered them and asked and she said he was living in a separate cage for the last 6 months, but wasn't looking good this morning so she decided to bring him, too. I'm assuming he's the daddy of the the 3 younger ones, but I have him separated since he's never been in w/the 2 youngest boys. Once they're healthy and neutered I'll start re-intros.

Well, whatever happened, I'm glad they did the right thing and reached out for help. The fact that they were willing to surrender them to a vet and to you is more than a lot of people do in this situation. Most of the time, these kind of situations don't have happy endings.

Thank you, glidergloo, for doing the right thing.

I dont kno excatly if this is going to make since cuz i'm thinking about a thousand thoughts per second right now, lol, but omg...reading this i wanna cry. I am so confused...First I just wanna say how much more i now value this forum, and give credit to the ones out there who help. If i could help I would. However I kno finacally it isnt possible for me to do anymore than I am currently doing...which saddens me greatly :(
It bothers me even more now after reading this that so many vets, and websites are against forums. Have this forum not have been here to assist the indivuadal at hand, those gliders may not have made it. How could a VET be against something like this???
My next point is, why? I just truely dont understand how glider get like that? I dont understand how anyone could look at such a sweet, kind, passionate, and loving creature and neglect it. I dont understand how they could say that gliders just arent for them. I just dnt get it. I mean...god, they are so awesome. My life got so much fuller once I got my two boys. Even with the vet bills that i couldnt afford, and the pellet food i wasted money on, and constant cage cleaning, i NEVER ONCE thought i wish i didnt get them. I read a post once where someone said if theyt knew then what they knew now, they wouldnt do it over again. HOW??? I just dont understand. How can you not want to educate urself about these fasicanting little creatures? And how can you not fall in love with them? I am late almost everyday any where i go or anything i do b/c i'm busy loving and spending time with my two boys. And i have a child....lol...dont get me wrong, my child is still the highlight of my life, but when these boys entered my life...i felt like the wow...my prayers have been answered...finally something to fill this void I have. I missed my cat dearly who I lost a few yrs back and never was able to get another animal b/c it hurt to bad. THe glider just sorta came to me. And my life is now conplete. DOes that sound dumb? lol...I just...i mean..wow...they are so great, and i dont uinderstand how anyone could think anyother way,....

They are great aren't they. I was the person who made that comment and I'll tell you why. Not because I don't love my babies because I do with all my heart. So much so that I am here almost every day reading, educating myself and trying to educate others. But in all that I am so much sadder because my heart breaks everyday with these kind of threads and the ones who cannot be saved. This particular story has a happy ending, YES but I am always so heart broken by the ones that don't. With no other animal would I be on a forum reading things that upset me or make me feel so awful about my pet. But here I am. This is what I meant by that statement. I have them and I am here and this is where I plan to stay. I wish I could change the world but I can't but hopefully I can fix just one small piece and help someone here and it will have been worth it all.
